....Retake on an rp response I saw.....
It hurt the slash from Envy’s claws but what hurt more was his heart, he’d betrayed his mentor’s trust death was coming and there was nothing he could do to stop it. He could only console himself with the idea of the princess racing free on the pride lands safe to play another day. The blonde lion inwardly smiled at this brilliant mote of light he’d protected only to find the look in elder lion’s eyes nothing he expected. No it was far worse and the bottom dropped out of the world shattering the hopes and dreams that chased each other in his heart. The edges of his vision pricked with tears as the darkness opened its claws and sank them deep into his soul. Panic took over and the cub let out a soft gasp and tried to find anything that might be the possibility of redemption in those eyes.
The words tore that hope from him and in vain he opened his mouth to speak. Vanity’s expression, the sight of their backs as they started away… Silently he knew deep in his heart and the young male lowered his head nothing more to be said. The exile shut his bright golden eyes. It was over the bonds he had between his mentor and the rest of them, it made his heart hurt with bitter regret but not for saving the other cub. Without a word he looked helplessly up at the sky his growing mane falling his eyes. Was I wrong to dream of being happy? Was I wrong to believe there was something better? Envy’s words… my betrayal…he’s killed me with lifting a claw. The touch to his shoulder made the fur rise and when he felt it was small thus cub sized the fur settled since the threat wasn’t one. The other’s words right now from what should have been an enemy comforted more than he could understand no one had ever cared before not even Envy he’d just snorted and padded on when the cub had gotten hurt or needed comfort from his pains. Scarred all the way to the soul he spoke in a dead tone his idea that his fate was at an end.
“Yeah…I’m fine…you should go…they are here for you…” Not me… live free, live happy…The bitterness made him sick but he refused to show weakness not here in front of Pride Landers. They were going to either kill him or leave him. That’s what he knew. The cub sank down staring at the dirt in silence waiting for the kill blow or the chase that would see him racing to his death. She would leave after all she had grassy lands to play in and a carefree life ahead of her. For an outlander, it was every lion from themselves what was any different in their sunny place of life and freedom? Love was a farce, so was friendship you clawed your way to the top and fought anyone who dared fight you for that notch you’d made. He’d fallen from his and there was no way back.
But he’d be damned if he’d let Envy leave with out a word back. “What did I do wrong? What’s so bad about protecting another lion that’s all we are! What the hell is so wrong about that?!” The tears came and the self loathing that he would dare cry came right after it. “WHY?!”
