searching for something that may not exist

it seems to me people don't quite have a grasp on life, that is, some people are too busy "living their lives" to stop and look around them and see what all this means (i too am guilty of that at some point in my life) it frustrates me to see people going about their daily routines without thinking about how what they are doing effects others, for instance, the people who drive everywhere don't stop and think "using oil in my car is keeping dictators in power in africa." yet that seems insiginifigant (comparatively from my viewpoint, feel free to disagree) to the people who turn their backs on the homeless who are trying to survive from day to day not knowing where their next meal is comming from. it kills me to see people casually pass by too wrapped up in their cell phone conversations to see that a fellow human is suffering right in front of them. perhaps even worse than that is when the homeless ask for spare change and people shrug them off saying "i dont have any money" then come out of the gap with 2 new pairs of jeans (that they payed extra for to get pre-ripped)or perhaps even worse than that is the people who critisize the homeless blaming their situation on drug and alcohol use, then going off and drinking 15 beers and doing 2 lines. perhaps i'm too cynical of others, perhaps i am envious of those with no responsibility to anyhthing dare i say i am envious of the homeless for their courage to sit on telegraph everyday with the same spoiled university students spitting on them (metaphorically, though it wouldnt suprise me if it actually happens) because they don't fit into their ideal of some rich suburburb where everything is perfect and they get as much (insert drug of choice here) as they want. maybe i am too idealistic in expecting and hoping for the best from people, maybe i should go spend a day with the homeless maybe everyone should spend a day with someone homeless so they(we) can understand what it feels like to be so desperate that you have to beg for money for food or search through dumpsters and trashcans just to get a meal.
