Moon Icon Because Werewolves

So, vidding. Specifically, vidding in the wild. I've had this idea for a long time about a Buffy/SPN vid, and I've been working on it in fits and starts for about three months. And it is kicking my ass. I am not actually a huge vid viewer by nature, because I find watching things sort of trying, especially the first time through. (This is one of the reasons I tend to fall behind on TV shows I like, or just skip entire episodes when they make me uncomfortable. Guess who still hasn't seen The French Mistake?) When I do watch, it's meta-vids, or highly-recommended vids for my fandoms, or humor vids. So, in other words: I don't know what I'm doing. Yet I do it anyways.

I just... I've spent some time fooling around, looking for resources. I've learned to correct for the completely different aspect ratios of Buffy and SPN, and I've imported my clips either de-interlaced or not as needed. I've taught myself how to remix my song of choice (sort of, in a very primitive way) until it fits the mood I'm trying to achieve. My issue is finding either well written, comprehensible vidding journals, or vidding communities that aren't being named specifically for assorted dramatics that take place.

At the same time, I feel like a cheat, because vidding is traditionally a taught activity passed down from fan to fan, and I'm just sitting here, making a damn vid. It's kind of lonely, in a way that writing isn't. If I were doing this properly, learning from vidders I admire, maybe I wouldn't be so lost and lonely, and maybe that's the point of the historical system. But I travel to cons to meet people is expensive and nerve-wracking (and I live in the middle of a huge southwestern state, so nothing is convenient.) So... not really sure what the right thing to do is. Keep looking through the journals of vidders I like? Keep watching vids over and over until I see what makes them good?
