I'm hopeful that the job interview i went to on friday pans out. It was for an electricians apprentice position. If I get the job it's a 5 year commitment, meaning it'll take 5 years to get my license as a journeyman electrician. On one hand I want this because the company will pay for my schooling and testing, as well as having a regular 40 hour work week, with occasional overtime and weekends. I also want this because no matter where I go afterward I'll have a career option that I can take with me. I won't be unskilled labor, or no longer not skilled enough, like with welding. The minimum pay is controlled through New York State and my rating as an apprentice. I can't be shortchanged, and after a couple of years I'll be making around $18 an hour, plus 401k and all that.
I'm hesitant because I want to get out of New York State. I don't like the winters here and I go through a nasty depression every winter. Constantly being cooped in my house because it's too cold to go outside. Too cold to take the kids out, so they are stuck inside too. Part of me wants to move back to Texas, play in or around the San Antonio area. Part of me wants to move back to Maryland or near Hagerstown so I can play regularly at CG, but on the same hand part of me doesn't because of the sheer political bullshit, and jockeying for power. A lot of people don't seem to care for the group anymore, but mostly care for what they can get out of it while it dies. All the while stomping on anyone who tries to think for themselves, and tries to help revive the group.
Sorry for the rant.
Ultimately I'll know within the next week or so if I have the job. We'll see how everything pans out.
