Today is Family Day and Vestalia (Roman), and we're halfway through Fishing Week (did anyone even notice?).
Before I delve into a couple rants, You're Invited, Suckas! To what, you say? Why,
here (aka ICSOD 3), a li'l somethin' somethin' to celebrate yours truly's 33rd b'day (as well as art in general and
Polska Sucka!/
Suckas United!). Click the ICSOD 3 link for a .pdf of what's goin' on (aka The Details)! *smiles* You rock,
vaslittlecrow!
City officials in Duluth are using a low only 2 weeks on the books to fight a planned stripclub. The new law state prohibits strip clubs within 500 feet of the property line of any residence or within 2,800 feet of churches and schools and notification to the city 60 days in advance of opening.
The new NorShor apparantly did not notify, despite the law being only in effect for 14 days itself! Personally, I feel this is where "Moral Communities" go too far [see all previous posts concerning the "Moral Majority"].
In addition, the current strip clubs, which by law will now have to shut down but plan to fight the law, have never received a complaint to date.
"Character education" should be taught at home, right? The state legislature is giving $1.5 million to finance programs for Minnesota to teach them "life lessons they'd [normally] learn at home and at church," such as Don't Cheat, Be On Time, Tell The Truth, and other "Values."
Although I do think these are things people should learn, I keep getting told they are outdated ideals ... yet, what completely pisses me off is that suddenly it becomes a "church" lesson and it's ok for kids to learn? That's pure bullshit, there are innumerable "lies" the church(es) have told and innumerable instances of it's "cheating" as well (*ponders* anyone remember what was really behind the Crusades?)!
ANYways, I just can't approve schools being expected to teach things that most of their teachers don't personally do themselves. Yes, these are important things to life, but those who live to those lessons should be teaching it, not schools or churches, either! Try the parents, for a change!
AND... who decides what these "Values" are? As I've said many times, morality and values are distinctly personal and point-of-view! *deep sigh* I'm fighting a losing battle, aren't I?
