(no subject)

Well, me being the everbusy chipmunk that I am, guess what I've been doing this past week? Making a montage of Alexei Yagudin clips (Music: It doesn't Get Better Than This ;P - Katy Fitzgerald.) Using Microsoft Movie Maker 2.0 (WMM) (v.v. easy to use. And who said MS was all evil.)

I'm obsessed, I'll admit, but it's only been two months, I've finally read through all the figure skating forum archives, (starting my second read-through now.) At least it's not drugs, though the state it leaves me in is probably very similar.

OK, 10 rules to making a successful video montage. (Let's see if I can actually get 10 points.)

1. Music (1) - Listen, if I wanted to listen to 'Don't Let the Dogs Out'-- Which, by the way, is never again. Anyway, the point it, choose a song that doesn't leave viewers thinking: "Silence is golden... How true."

2. Music (2) - Match the lyrics if there are any. Or else just use the midi.

3. Music (3) - Take the beat and change in music for your cues. Trim your clips so that it matches the music.

4. Placement - Organise each cut so that two similar clips (such as two jumps) aren't next to each other, unless it's a segment of one particular element, (ie. jumps at different competitions.)

5. Titles - It doesn't have to be Arial or Times New Roman, dead center on a black background and fading into the first clip. (Although WMM is a bit rigid in what it can do...)

(Wooo! 5 down, 5 to go.)

6. Fonts - Choose one that captures the personality of the clip. playful? Serious?

7. Cuts - Don't start a clip if in the next two seconds the clip cuts to another scene. Either start the clip earlier, or start the clip from the point of the cut.

8. Transitions - Shatter Glass, Twirly Fade, Box In... They're not back in, never was in, and never will be in. (Major holidays does not make this rule redundant.)

9. Effects - Ease in (v. cool. It's when the camera zooms in on the clip), Slow down, speed up... Again, use sparingly, (because people want to see the subject of the video, and not special effects.)

10. Eh... Um... Alright: Choose a piece of music you like, but doesn't get the chance to hear that often. Because I assure you, you will get tired of it, (so maybe you shouldn't choose a piece you like?) especially when you have to go back and make adjustments and whatnot.

The Exceedingly Strange Case of George W. Bush - Strange is putting it mildly. (And kindly.)

CN8 - Because there's nothing good on TV. (Go to CN8 Live)

ESpew - You spew, I spew, so what? Um... no. Sometimes decent online music download search engine. Pity it doesn't have a lot of songs I wanted.

8391 - Chinese music download site. Actually downloads! Actualy downloads quite fast!
