Of Art and Books

So the first week of the holidays is very nearly officially over, (just 1 hour, 57 minutes to go!) And what have I accomplished during this week? Apart from sleeping, eating and watching TV, I (and I'm unbelievably proud to say,) have actually figured out the majority of my art design stuff. Now all that's left is to take it to school and have it ripped apart, (highly optimistic, that I am.)

Yesterday I went to the Red Cross Book Fair. It was great, I got about 7 books by this one author (Anya Seton. Katherine, highly recommended.) whom I love, but whose books are out of print. And the library has a total of 1 copy of each of her books. And they're in the basement. So, apparently I'm the only person in NZ who's reading her.

It seemed to me, that there were only a few books/authors at the fair. I've seen at least 10 copies of Bryce Courtney's The Potato Factory, anything by James Clavell, about 5 copies of Lace 2 by Shirley Conran, (incidently, I've got the first book, not sure if I'll ever read it now...) not to mention Stephen King, . I nearly brought 5 books by Jilly Cooper, then I realised that if I wanted to read her I could just go to the library.

I noticed a few things while I was there. 80% of the fiction books were romance/for women. There were very little books for sci-fi, (but I did get two Orson Scott Card books. v.v. happy!) And there were a lot of old people there. So that tells you a lot. 1.women read more. 2.women are more generous, (or else men just don't read, see. #1) 3. people become more giving the older they get, (hence that lack of sci-fi/fantasy, chick-lit, young adults books - not to be confused with children's, which just means that they've grown up and their parents want to get rid of it.)

So, yes, the highlight of my week. I wonder what excitment will happen next week?

RPG World - parody of the average RPG, more specifically FF. If you play RPGs, definitely check it out.

Men In Hats - colourful, funny, polished. Very pick-upable.

Get Fuzzy - This comic just oozes cuteness. (Kinda reminds me of Angry Beavers - TV3, in the morning.) It's about... Something, (I'm not too sure what,) a dog and a human, sort of like Garfield, but much cooler.
