~ok, so i have one thing that i have to do. one thing- finish this stupid job application that i've constantly put off. so what am i going to do instead? update my LJ. figures. uggg...
~so i got back last night from a week of travelling with my parents. AMAZING. only, i'm pretty sure i cried as my train left the station, with them waving goodbye at me. i'm not the sentimental type, and i think of myself as very independent. but i miss them SO much, and having to say goodbye and leave them in paris was very hard. i only have about 2 months left in france, but right now it just seems like a very long time.
~my parents got to France last saturday and i took a train to paris at 6h40 to meet them. let me emphasize this. the train left Lyon Perrache station at 6h40. i got on the train at 6h40, maybe 6h39. yeah. missed the bus i had intended on taking, and waited 20 minutes for the next one. thought i was going to have a heart attack. but i got there. i'm a very lucky girl.
~so i picked up my parents and we made our way back to lyon. i showed them around the city, and we had a really yummy dinner in Vieux Lyon. Sunday we went to mass at Saint Jean Cathedrale and visited Fourviere, a really beautiful church on top of the hill in lyon. we checked out the roman ruins and walked around the city some more. more yummy food. monday morning we took a train to strasbourg.
~strasbourg is a quaint little town in the Alsace region with a very strong german influence (signs are listed in both languages), and my sister studied there during her junior year of college. it's a small town, but has the most beautiful old gothic cathedrale... really fabulous. so we spent 2 days in strasbourg, took a boat tour, ate tarte flambee and drank a beer with my dad. yummy. i think he was kind of embarassed that it took me so long to finish =). i'm just not the biggest fan of beer...
~tuesday we took a train to Paris, where we stayed for the night because we had an early flight to Prague on Wed. nothing terribly exciting, but we didn't have any problems with the rioting... thankfully.
~Wednesday morning we flew to Prague= the most beautiful city. LOVED it. highly recommend it. Wednesday we just walked around a bit and found the most AMAZING restaurent ever. i love travelling with parents. wayyyy better than trying to sight see on a college students budget. anyway, dinner was great, but i was exhausted and we went to bed kind of early. Thursday we got up and took a walking tour around Prague castle and Old town. Czech tour guide was hysterical... kept on calling our group his people and telling us to "follow me my people". cracked me up. even the teenage sons of the german family were making fun of him. in english. There were 2 british women with us as well, and Anne, the 70 year old mother, commented while we were touring one of the churches, "what is he, Jesus Christ" after Yan called for his people to follow him. hysterical. so after the tour, we walked around and did some shopping. things were really reasonably priced in prague, so i got some good gifts. my parents and i also found this gorgeous antique garnet necklace... so i got an early christmas present =).
~the next day we took another tour, this time starting on a boat and then walking through the Jewish Town afterwards. they actually had a jewish ghetto in the 1400's i think... anyway, we took the tour w/ the same british women from the day before... continued to crack me up. Anne, the 70 year old one did so in the did-she-actually-just-say-that kind of way. it was great. another fabulous meal. and more shopping. what more could a girl want? oh, and some czech woman yelled at me for rubbing this statue on the Charles bridge with the wrong hand. i can't remember the name of the statue or any other significant details... but i was intimidated a lil bit. =)
~so saturday we flew back into paris and walked around. we went to mass at notre dame, and took my dad to see sacre coeur afterwards. it is really such a beautiful sight at night. you can just look out and see the whole city... there was a group of young adults (is that what we are now?) sitting on the steps in front of the church just singing and playing guitars. i wish i could do that, live in paris, and go hang out on the steps like that at night when there isn't anything else to do...
~sunday we got up and went to Hotel Des Invalides, which houses Napolean's tomb (pretty big tomb for such a little guy) and a really good WWII museum. the french did kind of toot their horn for their success in WWII... clearly no one has the hear to point out that they didn't have much to do with that victory... =) no, but it was a good exhibit. after that we went to the musee d'orsay and saw some fabulous impressioniste stuff... ADORE Monet. it was so fun to see his paintings that were inspired by his gardens after visiting Giverny. after this we grabbed some lunch and went back to the hotel to grab my stuff for my train. was really sad leaving them, and i hope they have a safe trip back. they leave tomorrow morning... i was so tempted to stay in paris another day. but my dad already thinks that i never go to class... he'd never let me skip.
~there was a shop next to our hotel in paris that had a shelve full of Hulk statues and stuff... made me smile when we walked by it.
~so that was my trip w/ my parents. a little abbreviated, but i hate to bombard you guys with stuff online. my dad has some really great pictures... can't wait til we scrapbook this semester libs =)
~London in 2 days.... I'M SO EXCITED. it was katie's birthday sunday... we are gonna celebrate it right this weekend.
