Book search

So I've been trying to find a way to borrow the next book for my book club from a library because it is only available in hardcover here in the US. Don't really want to pay hardcover prices if I can avoid them. (Books on sale and at Costco being an exception to this rule)

I've checked over the last couple of months for availability from the UCLA library and for a while it was listed as checked out, but I didn't want to recall it because I was still reading last month's book. Now, the only copy that UCLA has was special requested and is not available in general circulation until January. I didn't want to do an interlibrary loan because this is simply pleasure reading.

I've also been checking on its availability at Santa Monica Public Library, where it has been available on the shelves for the last couple of months. I decided that I would drive over there today to check it out and found out that someone checked it out last week! Now, perhaps this is someone else in my book club, because that is a possibility. However, the people who are active in the book club discussions don't live around here, so it would have to be a lurker.

I thought about just buying the book, but it's rather short and rather expensive. So, I broke down and requested the interlibrary loan through the University. I figure that I'm paying dues to the library for other people to have the privilege of getting these loans for academic or personal reasons. So, hopefully it will come in the next week or so.
