I dreamed the world was ending, and I didn't even know it.
I'd bought a small house on the shore. It was quieter there then in the city. I could finally think. The local children used to come and visit. Well, not visit so much as trespass on my beach property. I didn't really mind though, I wasn't using it.
The days seemed to go by quietly and slowly. That was when I noticed something was wrong. The children stopped visiting, and the sunsets seemed to last forever.
It was right before it happened that I fully understood what was going on. The afternoon was bright with a strange hazy in the air. I walked along the shore towards town, knowing that no one would be there to greet me. I didn't mind though. At the rate I was going, I wouldn't reach them even if they were.
I'd been walking a day or an hour, when I turned inwards; away from the silent sea. The grass was tall and dying; a deep yellow brightened by the setting sun. I pulled at them as I climbed up the dunes, towards something else I couldn't describe. As I reached the peak I was blinded for a brief moment before I saw it.
It was bright and hot before it was nothing at all.
