no subject at the moment
So I just wanted to ramble for a bit. Nothing really important to talk about right now.
I have a presentation for my graphic novel class and I picked “Harvey Kurtzman’s Jungle Book”. I am appalled at the fact that in Kurtzman’s biographies that all over the internet, this work is overlooked completely. I am devastated that for as important as this man is, the only recognition of this book is on amazon.com. This is very frustrating as I have spent the past few days doing research and found 4 decent sites that have information.
In other news, I’ve been finding lots of cool records I would love to get my hands on. DEEP WOUND discography. DEEP WOUND was pre DINOSAUR JR, it pioneered early grindcore in the states here and LARM>>extreme noise cd. LARM was the first European straightedge band and pioneered grindcore in the mid 1980’s. In the first NAPALM DEATH album, the members can be seen with LARM shirts on. I have just been hunting down old discographies and new of hardcore/extreme hardcore bands.
I would also like to get “Mad about the fifties”, because I want to see what the rave is about the early MAD Magazine/comic book. Im trying to expose myself to the genius that is Harvey Kurtzman. Any fans out there??
I really want to draw looking at live models. The classes offered down at the Juice and Java Café on 4th St. im sure will conflict with my work schedule for the summer. Im just frustrated about that.
I wish that NOT JUST COMICS, the local comic book store was a real comic book store. Its ran by business ppl. I’ve talked to him about “back issues”. He thought I was talking about recent back issues and not old ass comic books you could rummage thru for your collection or whatever. I had to spell it out to this guy.
They don’t buy old comics, They just sell new ones and they wonder why they are not getting any business. If they owners were hip to that sort of thinking, many people would come there. I can understand the money side of things. I hope that they would start selling old comics, but I don’t think that is going to happen.
This is unusually short for me, I know. I just wanted to let everyone know that I am alive and well. Im just really busy with classes.
