Just watch Episode 35...May not be accurate in analysis: I watch raws
...Ever since the first time he show himself as Sa Sakujun in front of Shuurei, I never like him. Also because he was plotting to become the head of Sa clan and at the same time he is also Shuurei and Eigetsu's greatest obstacle (in my opinion for the time being)to becoming governers...
Hate his princess-like pink hair and his lipstick... (OMG! It's a woman in disguise!!!one111)
Hate the fact that he manipulates people with no morals of consequences...
Hate him for killing his uncle and and aunt-in-law and arranging the murder of his older brother...
Etc..
I was like most people thinking that he is simply using Shuurei as a tool of enjoyment, one that he will eventually throw away when he is sick of it.
But now (in Episode 35), watching him lost a bet (with Shuurei), later playing the erhu under a moonless night waiting for Shuurei to meet for one last time...
I cry. It was not a fest of tears but it was tears nonetheless.
It is clear by this episode that he has really fallen in love and that he finally started to feel for the first time ever since he is born. That was why it was painful to see him die.
I personally enjoyed the humanizing of Sakujun. The fact that he did not kill Seiran is a sign that only he wanted in his life is to meet Shuurei one last time and call her by name.
During the episode, he intended to tell Shuurei that she had indirectly killed him to gain love and make Shuurei remember him for the rest of her life. However, he did not. He did not want that kind of sympathy from her and he even denied that she was the one who killed him when Shuurei finally realized that she was the one who did it. At this point, I've already forgiven him!(Somehow, I think Shuurei might as well) Not because he had chosen death to compensate for what he had done but because he had already accepted death as his only path and did everything for the woman he really loved.

As much as I hate him for coming in between Ryuuki x Shuurei (my preferred couple =P)...
