It took me awhile, but I've finally come up with something resolutiony to do in 2010.
Every month I'm going to do something that has to do with the local culture here in the metro area. I don't see enough theatre, live music performances, museums, parks or any of the other bajillion things I could do around here. I've lived in Saint Paul for 5.5 years and I've barely explored what the area has to offer. So, the goal is at least one thing that stretches my comfort zone and what I usually do. More would be better and I'm starting January off with THREE things. Now it's four.
January 2010
- 1/18 went to First Ave for the first time. Halestorm was performing there and I really wanted to see them live. Lzzy Hale's voice is beyond amazing on the cd, but live...holy shit. She's unreal. A badass combo of Ann Wilson, Pink and Steven Tyler. Another opening act, Adelita's Way, was awesome, too. They came out onstage I loved every one of their songs even though I'd never heard them, which is pretty damn impressive for me. I'm SO going to get their cd. I would have picked it up that night, but the merch area was crowded with skanky girls throwing themselves at WHOEVER they could and I didn't want to deal. Theory of a Deadman was good too, but I'll admit I left midway through their set. I'd been there for almost four hours by that point, I was tired from working 8 days straight and truthfully, they did not hold my attention the way AW and Halestorm did. Not their fault. The crowd was going crazy for them. I was just ready to call it a night.
- 1/19 ate at Cat Man Do, a Tibetan/Indian/Nepalese restaurant across the street from my spa. SO not the kind of food I typically eat, but I really liked it. I have no idea if it's good by comparison to other food of its kind, but I liked it, so I suppose that's what counts, right?
- 1/22 invited to see The Lion in Winter at the Gremlin Theatre. A theatre friend has comp tickets and was kind enough to invite me along. Which is awesome because I'm freaking broke. Heh. I'll be back with details. ETA: Script was awesome, a couple actors were very good and it's always great to see Dave. The production itself was kind of flat, though. Still worth the trip. Free is rarely a waste of time.
- 1/24 went to Pizza Luce for the first time. Which surprises even me given it's pizza and you'd think I'd be all over that. I had the Ruby Rae and it was awesome. I'd totally have it again. And 2 for 1 bottles of wine are hard to beat.
