I woke up this morning to discover I had no internet, which after a couple of weeks of not having it... rather sucks. I checked my router and all and it was giving me a 'physical down' response, so I screwed around with it as best I know how all to no avail. I assume it's a problem on iinet's end, so I wait until about midday when I get fed up and ring tech support. They're lovely as usual, but after about half an hour of trying to fiddle with settings and stuff the guy basically tells me my router's most likely buggered, and though it's still under warranty I have to test it elsewhere to make sure it's really fucked.
So, I toodle off to my future in-laws' house and plug it in, forgetting that I need the damned software for the router to actually recognise anything it's plugged into, so apart from the ADSL light mysteriously turning on I learned next to nothing. I did fix their internet though, so yay me.
Back home and a bit pissed off and mopey, I rang tech support yet again to see if there was anything they could do or just to tell them I needed a new router, stat... The guy sounds almost exactly the same as the othe one. South African and ridiculously polite, asking how my day's been and everything. I needed that as I was feeling kinda awful. This guy checks things out and sees there's a problem at their end, and after a bit of fiddling we find that some port issue had to be resolved... and voila! I have internet back.
Happy happy happy! No new router and everything's back to peachy!
... wrong. Receive iinet bill for ADSL transfer, fine. Go to pay it, insufficient funds.
WHA?? I know I had enough in there, I was saving it for crying out loud. I KNOW I have no income so I'm very anal about my funds.
Check bank account. NEGATIVE $300 odd.
WHAT. SERIOUSLY.
Turns out my cousin forgot to either tell me I had to pay another fortnight's rent or just plain forgot to shut off the direct debit, so now I'm in for $300 I don't have, can't put in and the bank charges me $30 for every day I'm in the red.
Thanks, so happy now. Going to have to contact my folks and have them bail me out yet again. Good thing it wasn't actually my fault or I'd really be in the shit. UGH. FUN.
