Good to see you again, muse!

Oct 07, 2009 20:30

I finally get to use this icon when it actually pertains to something in my post! Excitement! My muse has finally shuddered back to life like the fickle rusty machine it is, and today I bring you three drabbles, two of which are requests from the drabble meme I posted earlier. I actually wrote the Young Wizards one in Japanese class. xD If you haven't read that series, by the way, you should. It's an excellent blend of sci-fi and fantasy by Diane Duane. The first book is So You Want to be a Wizard.

Aurus, your drabble is proving to be... rather difficult. Sorry! OTL

Young Wizards

Title: Catch a Burning Star as the Night Sky Smiles
Author:  fallenxembers17
Characters: Nita, Kit
Word Count: 278
Rating: G
Warnings: Slight, very unnoticable spoilers up to the end of A Wizard's Dilemma.
Summary: Nita finds herself laughing with joy for the first time in weeks.

The world was black and green and white, and Nita was laughing for the first time in weeks. When she realized this, and realized that Kit must have been planning this whole thing for nearly as long as she hadn't been laughing, she was startled into more jubilant laughter and the beginning of tears.

They were running, leaping, stumbling, all from their haste, and it was the best damn adrenaline rush Nita had ever had, even after the past few years fighting ambivalence and evil. No Lone Power right behind her, no twisted cabs hunting her, no sharks after her flesh.

No racing against the clock.

Nita glanced at Kit, grinned even harder at the sight of him, all sweat and smiles and pure joy.

It was ecstasy, plain and simple.

Then another one fell, closer this time; the white streaked across the ink dark sky, burning afterimages into their eyes and outshining even the brightest of stars far above them. For once, Nita didn't pause to wonder what the stars were or how far away they were or how tight the Lone Power's grip on those far-away worlds was. Her attention was on the brilliant light of the burning meteorite, the jubilant aura emanating from Kit, the tears of joy and receding pain carving paths down her flushed face.

Nita laughed again, allowed the feeling of simple joy to envelope her, made a mental note to thank Kit profusely.

In the meantime, they had a falling star to catch.

The night sky watched them, the stars the lone witness to their momentary happiness, and in a world much closer to the heart of time, someone smiled.

Title: Sweet Smell of Happiness
Author:  fallenxembers17
Characters/Pairings: Canada/Ukraine
Word Count: 175
Rating: PG
Warnings: None.
Summary: Ukraine has so very rarely felt as happy and safe as she does in his gentle arms. For pureraindrop .

Ukraine glanced around nervously and pulled her coat tighter about her chest. Russia would beat her bloody if he knew she was here, at the house of his worst enemy's brother. Not that he even knew said brother existed, but when her own dear brother was drunk and angry, nothing but his own twisted thoughts mattered.

At the thought, fear coursed through her, and her hand shook as she raised it to knock on the bright red door. The sound was tentative, soft, and certainly not enough to carry through the house, but Ukraine wasn't really surprised when the door flew open instantly anyway.

Strong slim arms were slipped around her waist and the sweet smell of maple filled her nose and the equally sweet feeling of being loved filled her heart, and then Ukraine was melting into Canada's arms.

So that was what it felt like, Ukraine thought as she smiled into Canada's shoulder, to be loved. To not fear a bloodied pipe or a bottle of vodka or broken promises.

To be happy.

Title: Vanity is a Bittersweet Thing
Author:  fallenxembers17
Characters/Pairings: Switzerland, Belgium
Word Count: 124
Rating: G
Warnings: None.
Summary: They'd never, ever admit it to the other. Ever. For
dinosaur_y .

Neither of them would admit it, but chocolate by any country was simply delicious. And certainly neither would admit to the boxes of chocolate under the bed, bought in secret and never to see the light of day except for the guilt-ridden trip from box to mouth in the dead of night.

Instead, they played the fool, pretending to enjoy only their own creations and never the others'. Switzerland with his Toblerone, Belgium with her Royal Belgian.

They both knew it was vain, and they both chose to ignore it.

After all, what was a little vanity compared to a lot of humiliation?

So the veiled barbs and midnight snacks continued. Their vanity was a sin, but what a delectable one it was.

note: I know absolutely nothing about foreign chocolates, no matter how much I wish I did. OTL

Ilu, my muse, you fickle, flighty thing. How come you only really appear when I'm utterly miserable and hating my pathetic self, hmm?
