I really need to stop completely writing off CD's because my brother says they aren't very good. Most of the time we share the same general musical choice, and he's generally right, but lately i've been finding out i have been dis-regarding some cd's that *definatly* deserve a listening too.
Like the newest(well not so new anymore) Jimmy Eat World CD. I've always loved their previous CD's, so i got excited about the CD futures. Last year when it came out, Rob told me not to bother because it wasn't as good as the other ones, so I didn't. and then my friend James down the hall re-introduced me and-- holy shit, i've been missing out. It really is amazing.
I especially love the song "Pain", and love it even more when supplemented by the video.
A random thing i've also noticed is the increased useage of Satelites in songs and as imagery. Lately let's see... Dave Mathews Band, Jimmy Eat World, Hum, The techno song called "satellite" (which is gorgeoues btw), Death Cab for Cutie, among others-- have all used or incorporated satellites into their songs. Not that I'm complaining, i acutally kind of look foreward to satellite songs these days, they are usually beautiful :)
Other (musical) things i've discovered recently: the band- Explosions in the Sky,the band Jack off Jill, Mars Volta, among others. i've also finally gained appreciaton for Third Eye Blind (god, they rock), Kelly Clarkson, Interpol, Dave Matthews Band (all bands i never really gave much thought to before), and Mindless Self Indulgence. And i've re-discovered the raw emotion and complexity of Jimmy Eat World, The darkness and beauty of the Deftones, the subdued essence of Hum, and the anger of The Used.
I've also finally come back to trance, especially vocal trance. The optimism and beauty and loss of it has finally come back to me, and i love it. I hadn't been able to appreciate it for a while. I didn't do it without help though, thanks to Khiemy and Chris (Starry) for never giving up and sending me songs-upon songs. xD
I also recently ignored Jonah's Newest CD with his band Gratitude, because my brother told me it's not that great. So, I think i'm going to give it a shot because my friend Andy suggested i do so, so why not?
Anyways sorry for my musical ramblings. For a while there, i forgot how much i loved it. (music not my ramblings XD)
Also-- if you have any song or band you really love and feel i should hear, please send it my way! I LOVE LOVE getting music, and actually the reason I have found most of this stuff is because other people sending it to me, or suggesting or introducing... so yes, suggestions/songs/bands OF ALL KINDS, are always welcome.
