Not really doing LJ any more. I'm sorry, folks... I've kind of defected to Blogspot and Facebook. I will stop by from time to time, but one thing I know I must do now is get my priorities in line, and spending 3 hours a day catching up on five different ways of keeping up with people is just not one of them ( Read more... )

Yup, soaking and sprouting, though I haven't tried much of that yet. I have some mung beans sprouting right now. I ordered a dehydrator and it should be arriving sometime in the next week; once I have that, I'm going to make some raw crackers and breads and see how that goes. I've had some store-bought raw flax-seed crackers that are really delicious. :)
Yeah, I have noticed I have a hard time with some raw foods, like too many nuts (or anything fatty). I have been told that there are a few things that can help with that, like systemic and other enzymes and supplemental HCl, both of which I've found very helpful. Also, anything that strengthens the digestive system will help, like ginger and other herbs, stress-reduction techniques, cleanses, etc. I think that having trouble digesting a food can be a sign that you shouldn't eat it (like I shouldn't eat dairy), or it can be a sign that your digestive system is weak or over-taxed and needs nourishment and support. Perhaps digestion of raw crucifers requires an enzyme your body currently lacks?
I really like warm stuff in the winter too, such as soups and grain dishes. I think that that is, so far, the hardest thing about eating all raw - I miss cooked grains a lot. But considering the issues I have with gluten-containing grains and corn, I think taking a break from them will help me. (I have a 25lb. bag of quinoa waiting for me when I'm done with this raw month.)
I am pretty sure that I have candida and leaky gut issues, and I need to repair my digestive system. Raw foods should help me with that, and I hope that once that is better, I will have an easier time digesting all foods, including cooked grains.
Eating all raw is much easier in the summer. I know that my choice of timing is not the easiest, but it's also a new year and I am privileged enough to have fresh produce available year-round. I do try to eat somewhat seasonally, but eating 100% locally & seasonally is something I've not yet achieved, just something I'm working on. Once I get my garden going in earnest, it will be easier, since I can grow my own greens year-round in my back-yard. :)
