OK, so, going to get cell phones (one for me, one for MJ). (Honestly, I am crazy and want to try to pull this off before GenCon... I know, I know.) iPhone is too pricey monthly, as awesome as it is. Looking at some Samsung phones... recommendations please?

It's not crazy, they can activate pretty fast. But what do you want it for? Temporary contact ability during Gencon, then letting it lapse, or changing your life to general cell phone power, even letting your land line lapse? Do you have digital cameras already, or care about the quality of the phone's camera? Do you want good Web/Net/email ability in your phone, or a full keyboard, or do you want JUST A PHONE, THANKS? Different choices, different options.

As mentioned, contracts can come with cheap phones for 'free'. If you do pay as you go, there are phones in the $20-50 range; I paid $50 for my Nokia 6010 4 years ago. There's also eBay or craigslist, but that might not be fast enough for GenCon. AT&T has a couple of pay as you go options, the other big companies probably do too. I don't know how the US is for pre-paid phones, or if that's just the same category as "pay as you go".

Probably faster and more effective than getting hung up on desirable phones is to go to the stores and finding what's *available*. No good getting excited over something out of stock. Bloomington has various branches, Target carries pay-go, Radio Shack serves multiple companies.

My parents got a Virgin pay-go so my father could call from the hospital. It was tres annoying and I'd rec against them.
