Summary: Hades keeps his promise about that dinner thing.
The colour has gone from the world; which is really quite a shock to be perfectly and completely honest- the world should have colour; even in winter there’s a bit of blue to lighten up things. But, no- no serious colour at all.
Anyway, she’s rather sure that she looks fairly stunning in the fifties evening dress that she’s picked out but she’s still not sure if it actually matches her eyes or hair which has led to her squinting at the mirror for a good ten minutes in a attempt to pick out some colour. Which led, in turn, to her neglecting to do anything with her hair.
That is the moment that somebody knocks on the door, of course.
“Yes?” she yelps; scuttling for the door and only just remembering to tug the mistletoe out of her hair.
Hades ... couldn't care less about the colours, though certainly the fact his apartment had been rearranged to suit someone else- that he didn't appreciate. Though everything else he could sort of deal with. Sort of.
The suit was comfortable and it looked good, he had checked his appearance a few times before heading out the door (after all, for him first impressions and appearance were rather important).
He knocked on Demeter's door and waited.
Well, Demeter can sort of deal with it- but she doesn’t appreciate it; the lovely dresses don’t really make up for any of her apartment suddenly being rather odd; without colours they’re nothing really- and she rather disapproves of that.
After a quick check of her general looks in the mirror by her door (odd how she’s deciding to do this around Hades; but she can’t think on that) she finally opens the door- making sure to greet him with a smile that edges the borderline of flirting; she wants to make it memorable after all.
“Good evening.”
Hades was Hades and there were many reasons why he did not have as many lovers (and apparently only one child really) compared to his brothers. "Evening, sister, are you ready?"
He doesn't comment on her dress, though he does look her over appreciating the beauty.
"I made reservations at this Italian place."
Luckily Demeter is rather used to catching appreciative glances on the sly, for some strange reason mortal men seemed rather scared of a goddess deciding to eat them back in her original life. So she can catch that glance now- and allow her hip to perhaps jut out a little more and her smile to perhaps grow a little bit wider; you take what you can get.
“Sounds great; let me just get my coat” …Which is somehow hanging right beside her instead of flung somewhere in her apartment; how annoying. Anyway, it’s easier to fetch and she’s soon stepping out of the door and slipping her coat on over the dress- a pity that she has to hide it but freezing to death would not be very helpful.
"Good, come on." He nodded his head and offered his arm to her, leading her out of the building and outside. The place he had picked was nearby so driving wasn't necessary, Hades strolled along, preferring to let her carry on the conversation. He didn't have much to say.
In fact he was rather preoccupied with his job to say much on anything else.
Hm, arm offering- instant points! She can’t really remember the last time she took somebody’s arm and then was led away from a place with beds. It’s almost odd really- but nice; and the fairly solid presence of Hades’s arm reminds her quite nicely that she isn’t all alone in a world without anything all that pretty.
…Well, there’s a nice topic of conversation.
“Odd colours tonight” she starts fairly casually; about a block away from the complex.
"Nothing special." Hades replies and lets go of her arm to open the door and usher her inside the restaurant to their table. The man seemed to recognize Mr.Blackwell and made a fuss of greeting him and doing some small talk before leading them to their table.
It was private, well-set out, and Hades slipped the man an extra twenty when he saw the table. Good, he liked it being set out well. "Thank you," And with that done the man turned to Demeter showering her with compliments and offering to take her coat.
“They don’t exist” Demeter says flatly just before she enters; then she stands there and looks faintly amused at the fuss- it almost reminds her of the old days; the days when people would fall over themselves to pray at her feet- luckily this isn’t quite as annoying as those times. It’s rather pleasant actually.
She darts a quick glance across at Hades as the compliments start and then focuses her attention on the man- letting out a rather charming laugh (she’s used to these patterns by now) and handing him her coat with little fuss; fairly happy to be showing off her dress again as she seats herself- still smiling at the man until he leaves them.
A short pause and then she directs her gaze back to Hades “…It’s hardly important I suppose; the lack of colour.”
"I imagine you don't particularly enjoy it." hades pointed out and sat himself down, opening the menu to explore what was the special today. "The food here is rather good, the day's specials - but feel free to order whatever strikes your fancy. I'll order us a bottle of wine- red or white?"
He found the lack of colour inconsequential but... the underworld wasn't very bright.
“Most of my time before I came here was spent amongst green things; I’m allowed to be a little annoyed about it” Demeter points out gently; flicking open her menu to examine the vegetarian options with quite a bit of interest; thank heavens for modern diets- she can cook meat but she’d rather prefer not to eat it “Hm… Red perhaps?”
It doesn’t look good on her but it tastes good; and that’s what matters.
"Red then." He waved over at the waiter and ordered a bottle of red before turning back to his menu, he picked out what he would have and then closed his waiting for the wine. "Didn't say you were not allowed to be annoyed about it."
"In fact, I would be perplexed if you were not annoyed about it."
“Well, at least you’re understanding” Demeter shrugs lightly; picking a fairly nice looking salad from the menu and leaning back in her chair… Yep, still no colour at all; it’s almost making her jumpy over everything.
After a few moments she sighs slightly and glances back at Hades; allowing a small smile to edge across her face- another smile that is on the edge of flirting “…It’s a nice place; do you come here often?”
"Understanding? Nah, I just know you." After their food was ordered and the wine was served, he continued speaking, clearly he was only comfortable when the waiters were out of hearing range. "Sometimes yes, you can't imagine I cook for myself, do you?" Hades wasn't like that.
If anything he'd have someone to cook for him.
“Well, I suppose that’ll do” she’s still smiling though; and there’s no genuine nastiness in her tone- in fact she’s trying very hard; at present moment certain very locked away parts are saying something about how another passionate kiss against a wall would really be fairly nice but she ignores them for the most part- it might be fun to let somebody else set the pace.
“Well, I wasn’t really expecting you to be able to cook” she smiles again and pours herself a glass of the wine; yum alcohol.
"So I have to find good places to eat." Hades replied sipping his own glass. It didn't take long for their meal to be served - thank the Gods for being well known in this place. "If you don't mind me changing the topic, sister, what are you going to do about your daughter? I doubt this change of colours is doing her well."
It wasn't that he cared for his niece. It was that he cared for his siblings. In his weird way.
…Well, that’s a nice enough conversation for a supposed date- first he calls her sister (Which she really doesn’t mind that much actually; currently her total here stands at two nephews at least and possibly more) and then her brings up his future wife- it prompts her fairly open expression into one that quite clearly is a rather bemused one.
…Then it goes back to on the edge of flirting; thank gods for finally starting to learn about her brother “she doesn’t life with me anymore; but hopefully I can wrap her up warm- remind her how pretty the dresses are- and when this is over I’ll try to take her on a holiday for a few days; if she’ll allow me.”
At the comment about the dresses she may stroke hers a bit- in a gesture that is completely absent minded but that still manages to emphasise what curves can be seen across the table- go figure; apparently she’s got subconscious flirting down now.
Hades' eyes follow the gesture and he nods. Date? Funny, he would have never thought of this as a 'date' but it was probably best he remained oblivious on that front. "I see. I'm not asking because I care for her, I'm asking out of curiosity." Hades felt the need for that little detailed to be clarified.
"Anyway," he dug into his food.
Unfortunately Demeter tends to think of a fair few meals out with other people as dates; while Hades might not share his brothers urge to mate with most things she rather does- just to a slightly lesser degree and in a far more discreet way. She smirks slightly at that little comment and nods- bending down to her salad and starting to eat “of course not- don’t worry; I know your feelings on my daughter.”
She’s rather grateful for them to be honest; it means that no kidnapping will occur- and no marriage; which means no severe stress.
Good, then everyone was happy. Or at least most people seemed happy. He turned back to his food and took a few bites. The next few minutes were filled with casual conversation, Hades told her a bit about the place and so on.
Nothing too special or anything. Hades was not particularly keen on much in-depth conversation and by the time dessert was done- he seemed to have dodged the 'bullet' so to speak.
And Demeter just listened- perfectly happy to just sit there and talk; it was really rather lovely to be perfectly honest- she’s always liked just talking- she always used to do it when she gardened. Over the produce and chatting to her various helpers over nothing of great importance- those are her happiest memories.
After the dessert is gone and they’re waiting for the bill Demeter leans back and studies him for a few seconds- a perfectly natural lull in their conversation but there’s something in the back of her eyes that is torn between something almost like lust and something that is the essence of indecision. The end of the meal usually means one thing for her back in her apartment- but to be perfectly honest she doesn’t hold much hope of Hades taking that chance. Though she isn’t sure what she would do if he did.
…It’s really up to him; and at least she has a few minutes at least if a decision is coming; though it probably won’t be.
No, probably not. It wasn't like Hades to 'jump' the gun so to speak, so he frowns a little when he looks up at her and sees something in her eyes. He returns it with a clear 'I'm not like our brothers' look. And it really wasn't about not wanting her.
"Was dinner to your liking?" He asked finally leaning back and waving the bill away with some large bills before rising to help her with her coat.
Hm, that’s… Interesting; and a strange kind of nice really- most men leap at the chance to bed her. It’s quite charming to find a example who won’t immediately loose his senses around the smallest possibility. Even if she wasn’t expecting anything so base from Hades it’s still a rather nice surprise.
“It was lovely, thank you” she smiles at him; the look in her eyes fading back to one that isn’t quite a question- her hand still brushes absently over his as she slides the coat on but she doesn’t use the full level of caressing that her hands can commit; it’s just a light press against him- barely there.
Hades lets out a small sound and a nod, offering his arm again to lead her back to the complex. "You're welcome, I hope you don't mind walking back, it's not too long but." It was rather cold, he was fine with it though.
Nodding at the waiters and manager on the way out, Hades stepped out, holding the door for her. Now that was much better now.
“I can tolerate a little cold” Demeter chuckles slightly; smiling at the held open door as she strolls through it- chivalry, how very interesting “I’ve tolerated worse in my time.”
It’s been quite a nice night really- and it stays nice as they walk back to the apartment- a walk filled with more casual conversation. It’s really quite fun; they even reach the complex in good time- and with her barely noticing the cold; a minor miracle.
It had been a pleasant enough night, Hades was not as annoyed as he would be with most other company and he accompanied her to her apartment before releasing her arm. "It was alright to go to dinner with you, sister." He added in a more relaxed, offhanded way. A shrug followed.
"Good way to pass the time during father's tantrum."
"Indeed, it was nice" Demter nods; a fairly happy smile on her face- it was a nice way to pass her time; a way that was really quite acceptable- she'd be happy to spend another night like this; just talking and having fun.
After a few moments of hesitation she leans up and presses a small peck to the corner of his mouth; adn then leans back with a small smile and enters her apartment again with a tiny wave as a goodbye. Well, a odd night but a fairly good one- at least she had fun.
