WOM

WOM

I recently discovered something that should be brought to everyone's attention. Move over WOW becuase there is a new plague of the internet these days. And by WOW i mean World Of WarCraft. For those maybe 11 of you who don't know what WOW means. Anyway move over WOW becuase there is a new dog in town and it goes by the name of WOM. World Of Myspace.

Now there are many significant similarities between the two internet phenoms. Except for some reason it's the WOW players who get the small end of the stick. "You play WOW...you have no life". "Your a huge dork becuase you play WOW". Everyone out there who plays World of Warcraft know exactly what i am talking about. And even if you don't, you know that WOW players get made fun of the same way Magic the gathering and Dungeons and Dragons players did. Well I am going to show you how Myspace users are no different than your basic WOW players.

Both keep you glued to your computer for hours on end. Whether you log onto a sever as an elf to battle monsters, or log onto your account to see if anyone has commented on your new pictures, you still lose hours of your life and not even realize it.

Some World of Warcraft players, log on to escape reality. They create a character to do and be what they could never be or do in person. World of Myspace users log on to escape reality in their own way. And some of them escape their own reality to be someone who they will never be in the real world. Some myspace users hide behind false pictures and pretend to be someone they are not. Both users hide behind false images of theirselves while some don't, but the similarities are there.

In World of Warcraft your character gains levels after numerous battles. Well in World of Myspace your profile doesn't gain levels but you do gain friends. The higher the level your WOW character is the more options you have as far as gameplay goes. And in WOM the higher level of friends you have, the more options you have as far as comments and pages to play on go.

In World of Warcraft your character can get new armor, weapons and spells. You can upgrade your character to stronger or prettier looking armor and weapons. Well, the same goes for Myspace. Except in World of Myspace instead of armor you upgrade your layout and background images. New shoulder pads for your Dwarf, or a new image for your background, you still want to make the best of your creation.
In World of Warcraft the stronger weapon you have, the more damage you can cause in the game. Well instead of a weapon, myspace users have songs. Whether you get hit with a broadsword or the sweet sounds of your new favorite song, they still attack any potential wanderer.

So think about it. For every human on the planet who is obsessed with playing World of Warcraft there is a human who is obsessed with Myspace. For every WOW player striving to get their character to another level, there is a WOM user striving to get their myspace to look as amazing as possible. For every human on earth that only gets online from time to time to kill creatures to cure boredom, there is another human who logs on to myspace from time to time to check up on friends or kill boredom.

So when you break down both worlds, you come to see that while there are differences between both worlds, there are far too many similarities. So the next time you log onto myspace to check on how many people have commented on your most recent blog entry, remember....there is someone out there slaying a beast staring blankly at the computer screen much like you are right now.
