So it seems like things just keep getting worse and worse in the retail world. Not just the company - who is pulling some really crappy stuff - but the customers seem to be getting worse. I am so tired of people treating us like we are just another fixture in the store. Like we aren't even people! I was elbowed three times today alone just for doing my job. Anyone who knows me knows how hard it was for me not to turn around and return the action to the people. I have been listening to people complain for the past few days about the low levels of stock in our "impulse" (i.e. cheap) aisles. So I spent today restocking and filling the areas. What did I get for doing my JOB? In addition to the elbows, I got rude comments, dirty looks and flat out pissy people. Come on people, we are just doing our jobs! Just like you, we are doing what we are told to earn our paychecks to keep food on the table and a roof over our families heads. Why is it so difficult for you to just treat us like we are actual human beings? Give us a little respect and you would be surprised at how much friendly and more helpful we can be! Of course it's not all the customers fault - and it's not all customers. We have several regulars (we are a small store in a small town with a very small community feel) that come in. We have a couple that comes in every Fri night and have done so for at least the past 6 years that I know of. They are a little over the top and needy people when you first encounter them. The wife, M, was an artist for the longest time before she was diagnosed with an eye disease that is slowly taking her sight. She still paints just not with the extremely fine details she did a few years ago. In an effort to keep his wife in her element, R has spent a small fortune on lighting to help her studio be as easy on her eyes as it can be. He also brings her to the store every week like clock work and patiently waits for her to decide on what project she wants to work on this week. Since she has been diagnosed she has branched out into more than just art. Everything from jewelry making to wood crafting, knitting to cake decorating, clay sculpturing to flower design, you get the picture. So every week while he waits for her to decide what she will be working on until the next week, he "torments" the staff. He is an extremely friendly nice guy but he won't admit it. He likes people to think he's an annoying jerk. So he talks to the staff, asks them about their families, their health, what projects they have been working on, he picks stuff up in the wrong place and returns it to it's proper place, yeah I wish we had more annoying jerks like him :D
But in better news, the annoying ass whiny manager will be leaving!!! *does snoopy dance* Yeah, she put in her notice on Sun and they posted for her job today. We are kinda excited. Although it did cost me the vacation I had planned at the end of the month. Since we will be a manager down that leaves just 4 of us and our store mngr had already requested the same days off. So I ended up having to give up mine since she had it requested first. Even in leaving freaking lady finds some way to piss me off! So yeah, vacation is still a ways away now :( I really need one soon. I am getting to the end of my mental rope. I need some time away from there. Some time spent away from my family. Some time just hanging out w/ T!
I haven't seen T since the 5 min I spent in Oct picking up my cat from her. And to top it off she got some new game and has not been on yahoo in over a week. I haven't even gotten a txt that consisted of more than 1 word in like 5 days! Only saying this because T has joined the LJ world and I know she reads my stuff now... Love you! So it'll be a quick visit down there in a few weeks for my niece & nephew's bday party. But I will give them a month from her exit date to get a new person slotted in and I'm taking vacation. I will be in Portland taking up space in T's new apartment (which I can't wait to see!!!) and "forcing" her to watch Season 2 of Leverage :D
