I want a kitten,
And a cd
A stereo,
And love.
I want liberals
And conservatives
To stop taking jabs
At each other
And to realize we all want the same thing.
I want an apartment,
I want a job
I want health insurance
And good teeth.
I want to drive
And a car,
And I want
NO MORE WAR.
But I want this country
To mend this PETTY divide.
And to realize
We all want the same thing.
We want to be happy,
And to feel safe
We want to feel wanted
Not excluded.
We want love
And we want marriage
Or the right not to
We want HAPPINESS.
And I don't understand
Why that is so much
To ask for
In the land of the free?
To be conservative is fine.
Don't try to make everyone else
Just
Like
You.
Because we're not.
We're unhappy
Because you make us feel
Like we belong on
The Island of Misfit Toys.
As if to say
"Here, in the land
Where pride ourselves
On diversity,
YOU
Are not wanted,
Because you
Are too different.
GET OUT."
And as for religion
Your deity
Said nothing of converting.
And hell does not exist
Save for here
In my heart
Where I am SO HURT by you.
Were it not for these feelings
I have harbored so long
I would despise who you are
Because your mind is not open.
This world is not yet ready
For people of my intelligence,
Love
Openmindedness
And beliefs.
And someday,
This country will repeal
All the BIGOTED laws they have
And will move past silly prejudices
And we will ask ourselves,
Just like with civil rights,
How could we let this happen?
Why did we treat them this way?
Why did we treat them this way?
