"So that's why they call me the Cat Man!"

So...

Today I had to read twenty pages of the worst fiction I've ever laid my suffering eyes upon. There were the two stories I had to peer review for my writing class. One of them was so socially awkward and disorganized that I barely knew what had happened at the end. The other read as if it was written by someone who learned english exclusively from watching daytime television.
Head, meet desk. *thump*
I was using a red pen to mark them up and the pages were almost entirely red by the time I was through. There was so little to salvage in either story that I suspect they will have to start from scratch. Right now I'm just trying to figure out what constructive advice I can give during the critique. There is sooooo much wrong it isn't even funny.

In other news...

I picked up a fancy new wireless mouse for my computer today. The Mighty Mouse that comes with the Mac is okay but the track ball kept getting stuck and the USB cable was always getting tangled. This new one solves both problems by getting rid of the cable and replacing the track ball with a scroll wheel. Plus it's much more ergonomic and moves smoother.

This weekend I was supposed to go see a play on campus for my theatre class and write a tedious review of it but I heard it was awful. After checking the syllabus and realizing that a whopping ten points wasn't worth two wasted hours of my life I opted out. Seemed sensible to me. Beside I had lots of work to do on my story since the teacher wanted it revised and turned in early so I could make the deadline for the school literary journal.

I've been reading the Bomb Queen trades and, despite some clumsy storytelling, I like it. The concept is interesting (a supervillian ruling a town while the government turns a blind eye) and the main character has lots of potential. In the hands of a more experienced storyteller, I think it could be something truly awesome but I'm willing to stick it out because I see Jimmie Robinson improving as he goes.

Yesterday I got bored and decided to sort through two long boxes of completely disorganized comics. Many of you would cringe because none of them are bagged and boarded and I really have no desire to do it. I'm not keeping them for value and it would be expensive and time consuming. I did manage to sort out a few miniseries I had wanted to re-read. Last night I read through the 2005 GLA series (including the GLX-Mas special) plus Jim Mahfood's marvel humor joint he did with Bendis, Millar and a few other dudes. I finished Kitty Pryde: Shadow and Flame this morning and I found that I enjoyed it more than I did the first time. Kitty Pryde is my favorite Marvel character of all time (damn you, Whedon!) and this worked well as a sequel to the Kitty Pryde/Wolverine mini from the 80s (one of my favorite comic series of all time). I still have a few more series to go through including Identity Crisis and Vimanarama after I finish the last two Bomb Queen trades. I was also considering going through all my Invincible trades too. If I'm gonna have all this free time, I might as well use it constructively and read comics, right?
