so...
i'm a college graduate???? Slightly anti-climactic, but then again, not everything can be like it is on TV. ;-)
Last friday, after 3 days of lots of drinking, no sleeping and busy merry-making, i graduated Cum Laude from The College of New Jersey with a BA in Psychology and a minor (almost major) in Women's and Gender Studies. I had my (mostly family) graduation party on saturday, spent two days in PA with my cousins, and now i'm back down at my dad's.
In a week, I'll be flying to NC to go apartment hunting in Greensboro, NC, where I'll be attending graduate school at the University of North Carolina - Greensboro for an MS/EdS in Community Counseling/Couples and Family Counseling. As much as I'm really nervous and sad to be leaving everyone up here in Jersey, I'm really excited. My mom is down by Charlotte and Ryan and I will be getting an apartment together, so I won't be completely alone.
I just got an email notifying me that I have been offered a $5,000 scholarship award for the year - the Graduate School Scholar Award - which is a competitive scholarship awarded to the best incoming Graduate students across the entire University. I also found out that I would be getting a Research Assistant position within the department, which carries a $6,000 stipend (more like a job).
In the mean time, my summer plans include working a few days a week at TCNJ for the Deaf/Blind research and development grant doing BS work - it was a favor from one of the professors i'm close with. I asked him if he could give me a job and he said yes. So I'll be working there about 3 days a week, taking road trips to visit friends, making frequent trips to the beach, and living up my last days in Jersey until the move.
Then, the last three weeks in July, I will be the Dorm Director/Head Counselor at a camp at TCNJ for young adults (16-21 yrs old) who are blind and some of whom have other disabilities, such as cognitive delays. I'll be working 16 hours a day (7am-11pm) for 21 days straight, plus any issues that occur during the night, I'll be woken up for. I'll be in charge of all of the counselors, campers, scheduling and time sheets, planning recreational events for the campers, and handling any crises that occur. I'm going to be completely exhausted by the end, but the experience and the money is worth it.
Then two days after that ends, I'll be driving down to NC with brian and all of my possessions... or at least all the ones i can fit in my car. I'm looking forward to a change, but I'm also so scared of it. I just hope everything works out.
hopefully, more updates to come...
