who would have thought that the new router Covad gave me would have been fresh out of the box with default passwords, and set to block all incoming tcp connections, especially when the old cpe was locked up tighter than a drumb by the admin people at my isp (like it should be)....out of fear that the clients would fuck it up. well, when you ship it out to me like this, i HAVE to be the one to configure it...seeing as you cant even ping the router from the wide area....only from my bedroom.
dicks. here i wait 24 hours to dns records to expire...thinking all is well, and i havent gotten mail for 2 days. had to vpn to work, and port scan my apartment cause i thought maybe my isp had their shit together and would have pre-configured the router like they did every other time, and if i run a port scan of course ill get the expected ports open....hahaha. no. i get shit. not even icmp replys. to anything, not even the router.
then, searching online for default passwords....and poof....
maybe i should get paid for this.
so all the right ports are open now, http, mail, dns are all available...again.
sigh.
