Apartment Hunting

Why is it so hard to find a decent apartment nowadays? They have gotten to be so expensive, and I can't understand why. I'm not even talking about the super fancy ones, with personal washer and dryer, garage, and an actual living room and dining room as two seperate rooms type of apartments. I'm talking about a basic, one bedroom, one bathroom, one common room and a little kitchen sink area thingie stuck in there somewhere. I found one today that would be completely AWESOME to have, because it's not too big, not too small, a balcony overlooking nothing, and just enough room for all my stuff...and yet it is running at over $850 a month. The two bedroom was only $900. Why on EARTH is the one bedroom so damn expensive??

There are a couple I've found that seem to be okay, and I may have to settle, for 6-700, which is my range anyway, but those apartments are nearly efficiency sized. It's funny, but the freedom to live on one's own is cheaper when living with someone. Tomorrow, I begin my search anew. I'm branching out into farther cities, getting a bit farther away than where I'd like to be (the whole point of moving in this case would be to get closer to work, not farther from it, but if I can't afford it, I just can't afford it). Perhaps, instead of taking my cruise (that I've been wanting to go on since January), I'll pay off my car completely, and take that little debt away from my budget. I just hope that using that money for something practical doesn't wash away the hope of doing something for myself that I've always wanted to do.

Then again, I may find a perfect little haven in the under $700 range, and not have to worry about either. Or, I'll win the lottery. Ha ha.
