My father invented a device that allows me to phase through solid objects. Unfortunately it hasn't shown up here yet.

I've...never heard of such a device capable of doing that. What does it look like?

He made it for personal use, so it looks something like a belt. It creates a field that affects myself and whatever I am wearing. Though, technically it works through a combination of technology and magic, so I don't know if it's quite what you were after.

I see. Combining technology and magic is not an uncommon practice in my world, but never been used in a way that you've described its function.

I can imagine the possibilities that sort of device could lead to. [like sneaking into an enemy base undetected] No side effects?

Is that so? In my world it is considered something of a... well, it's usually not done, let's put it that way. My father was the first to try a practical application.

No side effects that we're aware of so far, and I've been using it for almost two years. [Just to get around, Alexei. Don't get any bright ideas, okay?] Granted, there are quite a few problems with using it to begin with. I can't tell you how annoying the prototype was.

...It's a not widely accepted practice. Something like that?

You didn't have people getting stuck between objects did you? [...horrible thought, really]

Something like that.

And, no. More like, being completely intangible means you can't touch anything, including the ground. That was... not pleasant.

Ah...I can see the problem now. Did you father create it for a purpose or more personal interest?

Certain... circumstances mean that wearing the modified version is the only way I have of leaving... leaving my home.

If I'm going into a subject you're not comfortable talking about, please say so.

No, it's alright. [She's really more upset about her current situation, which is far less stable.] It's fascinating research. I was glad to have been an inspiration for my father.
