[Mayoi was outside at this late hour, out watching the Mushi and sometimes glancing at the light river. She's been going late outside for the last couple days, since the Malnosso had kindly decided to deprive her of the comfort of sleeping for more than an hour or two. She also decided not to tell Alexei about being able to see the Mushi - he has enough to worry about and so does she.

She was about to leave for home, when she heard Alexei's voice while glancing through the journal. For a moment she thinks about what he said. 'Their doing'?

Alexei? Alexei, are you alright?

Hm? ...I'm fine. I think I just strained my eyes from reading. [So why does it still kind of sting? ...Hold on a minute]
