The Longhorn May Become Extinct Because They Aren't Tasty

"Thine is a task of blood-
Discharge that task with mercy-
Let thy victim know no pain
But let the sudden blow bring death,
Such death as thou thyself wouldst ask."

I do not think it is unethical to eat meat, but I do think we have a moral obligation to not inflict unnecessary pain on animals. The trouble is in determining what amount of pain in tolerable.

The more I think about it, the more it seems that I would need to only eat Kosher or Halal meat if I wished to act according to the ideal standard I wish to see in the world. I don't think the method of actually killing is the most humane, but I think the treatment of the animal up to the time of slaughter is. A death that may take a second longer I think is better than days of distress and pain prior to an instant death.

The remaining question seems to be "Is this matter important enough to require a change in behavior?"

I think the actual question is, "How much unethical activity am I willing to tolerate for the sake of convenience?"

Apparently, McDonald's has very high standards for humane slaughter. However, I think that cattle have their revenge on those who eat them in fast food form.

Also, changing pills makes me crave salad and get a little sick when I think about eating meals primarily consisting of flesh. Morality is very easy without temptation.
