Wondering why I picked the wand I did for Scorpius? Or maybe you're wondering why I put so much damn thought into it...
Well, first let me go over the characteristics of the wood and core he has. Information pulled directly from Pottermore, so it's as legit as it gets. c:
Willow wood
"Willow is an uncommon wand wood with healing power, and I have noted that the ideal owner for a willow wand often has some (usually unwarranted) insecurity, however well they may try and hide it. While many confident customers insist on trying a willow wand (attracted by their handsome appearance and well-founded reputation for enabling advanced, non-verbal magic) my willow wands have consistently selected those of greatest potential, rather than those who feel they have little to learn. It has always been a proverb in my family that he who has furthest to travel will go fastest with willow."
Dragon Heartstring
"As a rule, dragon heartstrings produce wands with the most power, and which are capable of the most flamboyant spells. Dragon wands tend to learn more quickly than other types. While they can change allegiance if won from their original master, they always bond strongly with the current owner.
The dragon wand tends to be easiest to turn to the Dark Arts, though it will not incline that way of its own accord. It is also the most prone of the three cores to accidents, being somewhat temperamental."
I chose ten inches for the length because it's a pretty average length (and also it's the length of Draco's wand). Not a lot of thought went into that, I'll admit. Springy, while also being the characteristic of Draco's wand, was picked because it's moderately flexible while still being slightly rigid. While some things about Scorpius never change, he is quite adaptable when he needs to be.
Dragon heartstring was picked mostly because of, oddly enough, the second and second-to-last sentences. Scorpius is a character that I believe has potential for both great evil and great good and I want his wand to reflect that. It also ties into his intelligence and adaptability, traits that definitely helped to land him in Ravenclaw.
Now, the wood was the most difficult part. I started up a list of all possible wood types and listed out their characteristics and looked up what characters had which wand woods... It was a process.
I finally decided on willow because not only is it elegant and capable of powerful magic (characteristics obviously necessary for a Malfoy wand), it really embodies that aforementioned trait of potential. Scorpius has a long way to go and it will be a difficult path. And that comment on being quite insecure despite how well they hide it really finalized the decision.
Other wand woods I considered: Elm, Hawthorn, Pine, Red Oak, Vine, Walnut
