Dean drank. Everyday. They had nothing. Nothing to save Cas and he was more broken than he could remember. How did he not see it? Now that his heart was breaking, breaking through every glass of whiskey, his blindness was shattered. He would give anything for a minute, a second, time. Time to grab Cas and hold him and tell him. What? He loved him? The words did not seem enough as the room spun again like it did every night.
He fell onto the bed, not even bothering to take off his shoes. Someday, he would get a chance. They would find something. A spell, some holy written word that would rip this whole thing wide apart. Rid Cas of the souls and bring him back to being simply Castiel. Angel of the lord. Who did not understand references, whose clear blue eyes pierced Dean through to places no one else had ever been.
Someday. Tonight he would sleep. As the darkness began to overtake him he thought he heard the rustle of wings.
“Yes Dean. One day. Please.” Cas sat on the edge of the bed and watched him sleep.
