April isn't feeling her best still, but her room is too small and the bar is too crowded, so she bundles up (probably more than strictly necessary) and heads outside for the peace of a snowy landscape.
There's someone else out in the snow - a blonde girl with a round, sweet face and an enraptured expression. April smiles slightly watching her; there's something so refreshingly innocent about how Suzanne is enjoying the snow.
"Let me guess," April calls after a moment, "you've never seen snow before?" Suzanne turns and smiles bright at her.
"Not before a few days ago," she admits, jogging over. "How're you feeling, by the way?"
April shrugs, glancing off in the direction of the lake. "Better."
"Good." Suzanne smiles at her, but she hesitates. "You... I know I don't know you too well, but if you want to talk ever..."
"Thanks," April says quietly. "Lots of people have offered." Suzanne doesn't say anything, but slips her hands into her pockets. They stand in silence for a moment, the only sound the hushed sound of the snowfall. "What if I fuck up again?" April asks suddenly. Suzanne doesn't answer right away.
"I guess... you just try again," she says slowly. "Danny... he was clean for eight years, I think. After a lot of work getting clean. And then he screwed up and had to start from scratch again. But... he's still a good person. He's still got friends who care about him."
April doesn't say anything.
"If... if everything falls apart," Suzanne ventures, "I guess you find whatever you can that's familiar and stable and you hold on to that until things stabilize. And then you start over."
It's innocent, in a way, April thinks. Advice from someone who's never had to live through their world falling apart, but she doesn't pretend to know exactly what to do, at least. And really, despite the fact that it's obviously the only thing to do... it's still some of the most sensible advice April's gotten. She smiles a little. "I'll remember that," she says finally.
The girls stand silently and watch the snow fall.
