Ich bin froh

In ancient times in europe graveyards were growing too large and considered a waste of space. The land was valuable and they could not afford to let acres and acres lie useless just for graveyards. So the idea of a bone house resulted. The graveyards warden would dig up bodies that had been decaying for hundreds of years in order to make room for others. The leg bones, arm bones, and skulls of these ancient dead were placed in the bone house. This was considered to be a way of honoring the dead. The skulls would often times be engraved with some kind of decoration as well as the name of the owner. Mens skulls were engraved with leaves of some type, and Ladies flowers. This is a picture of the bone house in Hallstadt. These skulls at one point in history contained the thinking brains of some of Hallstadts oldest citizens. Below the shelves of skulls displayed are the huge stacks leg bones. Notice the second picture and exactly how many bones there are in those piles, so many. Oddly enough standing there a midst the bones of so many dead folks it wasnt the least bit creepy. It felt much more like an honoring of those that came before than something scary or spooky.

So many bones.

Here are some pics of ma latino friends Miguel from mexico and Ismael from Equador. We spend the weekend at miguels house just bullshitting and such. Good stuff those two. Oh, notice my sweet ass new pulli. I look so austrian now.

We went swimming in a lil backyard pool that was the tempeture of ice water. You couldnt swim for more than a few minutes before you started turning blue. The sun was warm though.

I think i said before how at the hiking weekend at tauplitz we had snow? Well anyway we had snow and here are some crazy motherfuckers. A lot of the latinos  had never seen snow before and were quite thrilled.

Austria is starting to feel like home.
