Who: Euram and Shoon
What: Euram meets with his first blind date, and is very unhappy about it.
Where: The Cafe
Why: Queen is evil.
Euram was less than pleased. He’d received the notice of his requested participation in this little game the previous day. Now he found himself sitting at the decorated table, beautifully done he had to admit, waiting with trepidation for the first of the secret persons to be revealed. He idly circled the wine glass with his finger, looking around ready to dart the moment he saw anything resembling Alenia approach the table.
Shoon streached, arms over head as he walked to the cafe and cracked his neck. He wondered who he was going to paired with for this date. He hoped it was someone cute.
He saw the cafe, saw the decorated table, which looked rather garish to him, but it was a Valentine Date, so that was to be expected. And then he saw his date. Euram Barows. He vaguely wondered how he insulted that Queen woman, he hardly spoke to her, and stayed clear of her children.
He grimaced and walked over to the table and pulled out the chair and sat down hard in it. "Yo."
For all of his watchfulness Euram still didn’t notice to Shoon until he was suddenly right in front of him. He looked at him quite disdainfully considering how well their last meetings had gone.
“It is quite rude to sit when not invited,” he said, not placing why Shoon was there. “Fortunately, the situation is most easily remedied.”
"I was invited," Shoon said, "I'm you're date." He smirked at Euram, "So, that means you're paying right?"
“You most certainly were..what?” Euram exclaimed voice sounding as horrified as his face looked. “Ah I see…” he said, trying, but failing, to look calm. “Your aptitude at humor is as remedial as ever.”
Shoon reached into his pocket and pulled out the little time card that laid out his date and the times he would be meeting him and held out to Euram. "Feel free to double check, but I'm here, at the right time. Unless you got the times mixed up." He leaned back on his chair and hoped Euram did have the times mixed up. He did not want to go on a date with this man.
Euram snatched the time card out of his hand, and compared it to his own. His eyes roved back and forth between the two almost comically, before throwing them both to the ground. “Clearly, you have made some mistake!” he said quite loudly. “Leave now and I shall be graceful in not informing any others of it.”
"No," Shoon said, smirking at how Euram was behaving, "I haven't made a mistake and I'm hungry, and don't have anything at home. So, I'm staying to eat. You're free to go if you want." He let the chair drop so it was standing on four legs again, and looked around, "So, when's dinner get here?"
Euram was not amused by Shoon’s smirk. The other was taking this far too well. “I will not be a part of this farce!” he said emphatically, pushing the chair back as he stood. “I have no desire to watch your attempts at a civilized dinner, no matter how comical they might be.”
"Attempts?" Shoon echoed, "Attemtps at a civilized dinner? Excuse me?" Shoon narrowed his eyes at Euram. "I know how to eat just fine. I can use a fork, a knife, and a spoon. I know the correct way how to use each." He had to fight the urge to stand up and start yelling. "Now are you going leave, or you too afraid to see a former slave have just as good table manners as you?"
Shoon’s indignation brought a smirk to Euram’s face. Part of him knew it was wrong to take joy from it, but the rest of him was saying that Shoon started it. “My all three, I do hope you did not hurt yourself in the process,” he said a bit acidly. “Fine, it may be worth some amusment,” he sat back down at the table, not missing the challenge in the younger boy’s comment.
"Great," Shoon said sarcastically and opened his menu. He didn't know what he was thinking, opening his mouth like that. He didn't want to be here, not with Euram. He could have handled a date with anyone else, anyone. but somehow he ended up with Euram. It just wasn't fair. "Hmmm....what are you getting?"
Even though he’d sat back down, Euram still did not want to be there. He sat sideways with his arm draped along the back so he would not have to look at Shoon. He tapped his nails nervously against the back of the edge of the chair filling any speechless moments with noise. “Hmm?” he asked turning to look at Shoon, finger still tapping. “I have not decided. You do not expect that I will be paying for you do you? For I most certainly am not.”
"Well, it would be nice, since I'm the participent," Shoon said casually, "but if you can't pay I can cover for you," he looked over at Euram smiled wickedly, "dear."
Euram slammed his fist where he had been taping on the chair, and hoped that no one had seen him wince at how much it had hurt. He smirked again, but his resentment of Shoon jokes played quite plainly everywhere else in his demeanor. “How very drole,” he got out through clenched teeth. “However, I did not agree to this sordid arrangement and therefore see no need to waste my MOST AMPLE resources on an ungrateful lout.”
"You know," Shoon said slowly, "You could try to have a good time." He took a sip of the water that was there before he arrived. "All that anger you have can't be good for you." He took another drink and looked over at Euram before looking down at his menu, "And how am I ungrateful?"
And just kept on talking. Well, whatever. He WAS going to have a good time. Whether or not Euram had a good time didn't matter.
Euram was determined to not have a good time. He’d made up his mind about this whole valentine fiasco last year, but the hopeless romantic in him had forced him to show where he was met with only further disappointment. To have fun would be to prove himself wrong and that wasn’t a desired outcome. “How can one possibly have a good time under such circumstances?” he asked. “This is clearly some cruel joke devised by that offensive woman. I know you are used to providing entertainment for others, but I do not find it so easy to discount.” If he was upset he was going to do his best to insure so was Shoon.
Shoon bristled, but was determined to stay calm, "Look," he said, "I'm trying to enjoy myself here. Look, we have a nice table, we're going to have nice food, and if you're not good compony at least you're not offensive enough to look at." He hoped he worded that just right that it didn't sound like he was giving Euram a compilment on his looks. "And I can pretend you're a girl." ooops. "You screetch like one enough."
Euram looked at Shoon truly scandalized! “Wh..tch..how…” he sputtered unable to get a complete sentence out after that. “SHUT UP!” he shouted, glaring at the other boy angrily. “I see now!,” he pointed accusingly at Shoon. “You must have plotted to be allowed here in hopes of a free meal. Tell me, charlatan, what happened to the actual person who was to meet me?”
Shoon held up his hands, "Nothin' I'm the one who's suppose to be on a date with ya, unfortunetally. I was totally planing on paying for you and everything." He pulled out his wallet and showed Euram all the potch he had, which was a very decent amount, due to working two jobs. "Since I'm a nice guy and all, but I figured since you know, rich and all you wouldn't mind paying for a soup and salad- which is relativly cheap."
"So," he continued, putting the wallet back, "Like I said, if you can't pay for the meal, I'll pay for you." He put on his best smile and aimed it at Euram.
The smile only made Euram sneer more. It wasn’t fair! “Obviously you have come about this funds through a nefarious means, which I desire no part of!” he nodded decisively after that even though he did not truly believe it. After Shoon’s speech even if Euram had been starving his pride would not allow him to remain. Now sitting at the same table would be accepting a gladiator’s pity. That was…unacceptable! He stood again, chair moving back violently at the action. “Good day!”
"Wait." Shoon said bolting to his feet. "Are you implying that I stole this money?!" he demanded. He was not going to let it be said that he didn't earn this money honestly, that he hadn't worked as hard as he could at TWO jobs in addition to his train. He was not going to let that stand. "Hey, you just accuse somebody of doing that and walk away!"
Euram may not have actually thought Shoon had stolen the money, but he couldn’t go against it now. He just wanted to leave this entire situation, he didn’t need his excuse being thrown back in his face. “I am implying nothing!” he said with a nonchalant wave of his hand, making it unsure whether he meant he hadn’t said that or that it merely wasn’t ‘implied’.”
"No! You don't do that!" Shoon yelled too insenced to let this drop. He marched over and poked Euram in the chest, glaring up at the taller boy. "I work my ass off at two jobs. TWO jobs. Here at the cafe and over at the trading post. I'm NOT going to stand around and let you say that I didn' earn the money I have."
Euram backed up instinctively from the poking finger, ow. “Hey..now…I said nothing of that sort!” he said whether or not he actually had. “Hmpf, I do not have take this from you! I declare this meeting over. As I said ‘Good Day!’”
"You said that I "obviously came across these funds through some nefarious means," he said, mimicing Euram 's voice. "You just don't go around saying crap like that without expecting someone to take offense!"
“I did not,” Euram lied instantly, unable to come up with a better plan than outright denial. “My, but if you will take offense at every misinterpretation there is nothing more that can be said.” He started moving back again, to take his leave.
"You said it!" Shoon yellled and then huffed, crossing his arms and turning away slightly. "Fine. Don't back up your words. Be a coward."
“Did not!” Euram argued back, before looking huffily away as well. “If there are no words to back up, there is no need to remain.” He straightened his jacket, and turned to march off.
"Did too!" Shoon called after him, not caring how immature he sounded. "And for the record you were the worst date I've ever been on!"
“Did not!” Euram shouted back even as he walked out. Shoon was not allowed to have the last word.
"Did too!" Shoon shouted, just as determined not to let Euram have the last word.
"Did not!"
"Did too!"
"Did not!"
"Did too!"
"Did not!"
"Did too!"
"Did not!"
