I was sitting outside the courtroom with one of the lawyers I work for yesterday, waiting for something to happen with a case. She's about 30, sucsessful professional, etc. I've always assumed she is married, because she has a hypenated last name. But as we were sitting there, I saw she had no wedding ring. another angle to the "as long as you don't masquerade as married" concept is the concept of having the fabulous ring without non-verbally and unintentionally communicating that you are "unavailable", i suppose.

i gotta argue with the "most everyone (men, women, other) would agree that women have little trouble buying themselves jewelry" part, as every woman i know is reluctant to spend the kind of money on herself all at once that high end jewelry costs for something that frivolous and indulgent. mind you, i am not against frivolity and indulgence, if one can afford it, nossir not at all (even though i had to bite my tongue REALLY HARD today when some guy with a white humvee was worried about a door ding parked next to me and wanted me to wait to exit my car until he had pulled out). i just know very few women who are comfortable with that level of it.

i have started training myself in the direction of indulgence and started buying myself damn flowers though! i think that's better than dumb ol' diamonds anyway.
