So if we can be happy by remembering pain in the past, we must also be able to make ourselves depressed by looking at happyness in the future. While I doubt we will feel depressed from looking at a happy future, we could feel a sense of dissapointment. "Why aren't I there now? why does it have to be in the future? Why does my present lack the happyness of my future?" If there is a certain aspect of our character that is empty, then we must be able to fill it.
The terms I use of suffering and happyness is relative, by suffering I don't mean literal suffering like hanging on a cross. I simply mean anythiing that isn't preferable. Although, what is preferable to people is relative in itself. And a person who prefers to smoke crack isn't doing the best thing for himself, etc. So how do we know when our preferences have crossed the line of good or bad......................?
