Holy crap. What a catastrophic series of failures. I, too, feel for Mr Martin. At least there's some consolation in knowing he was the actual winner at the time of collapse, and not just a winner-by-default.
Well, yes and no. Like A1GP, drivers aren't individually recognised. A team can use multiple drivers towards the championship. Japan for example had two very European drivers contributing towards its championship position.
The whole thing was a daft idea in the first place and I really don't know why the football clubs got involved. Superleague Formula is the second iteration of the concept after Premier Grand Prix failed completely to get off the ground about a decade ago. Why Football would want to prop up a rival sport I never really got.
Personally I was never able to see the point of A1GP and - even less so - of Superleague. The cars were clunky and old fashioned, and given that the Silverstone rounds last season had more security men than spectators, I was clearly not the only person who couldn't see the point.
