Perception of Time in Valinor

KNOWING THAT:
  1. Time is perceived differently in Valinor than it is in Middle-earth, AKA the world as we know it.
  2. This difference in time perception is such that exactly one hundred forty-four years here is perceived as one year there.
  3. The mechanism in which time is perceived differently is known as time dilation.

No, you don't need to check my math. Gods know I ran through it about five times just to make sure I wasn't making an ass of myself. XD

Because rate of speech is a function of time and not of distance, as above, all we need to do is divide the typical speaking rate of an Adan by 144 to get a Valinorean Elda's speaking rate. Assuming a speaking rate of 125 words per minute for an Adan, it comes out to roughly 0.868 words per minute.

Let's contemplate, briefly, the Oath of Fëanor:

“Be he foe or friend, be he foul or clean
Brood of Morgoth or bright Vala,
Elda or Maia or Aftercomer,
Man yet unborn upon Middle-earth,
Neither law, nor love, nor league of swords,
Dread nor danger, not Doom itself
Shall defend him from Fëanáro, and Fëanáro’s kin,
Whoso hideth or hoardeth, or in hand taketh,
Finding keepeth or afar casteth
A Silmaril. This swear we all…
Death we will deal him ere Day’s ending,
Woe unto world’s end! Our word hear thou,
Eru Allfather! To the everlasting
Darkness doom us if our deed faileth…
On the holy mountain hear in witness
and our vow remember,
Manwë and Varda!"

That there took Fëanor and his sons nearly 95 minutes.

after msn, lj decided to prevent me from commenting here. I'm just about to give up.

In short, I was saying that it's oddly fitting that it would take so long and that it doesn't shock me to imagine it that way, I am not sure why xD

And as for your other comment, I doubt Elves spoke faster than us... probably slower! hahaha! so imagine that!
