I really love this! This bit in particular:

Silence fell over the kitchen. Their eyes turned slowly to the toaster; the only kitchen appliance they might have a hope of mastering. But the word 'toaster' had a darker context now...one that stole away their appetites.

“I could use a glass of water,” Ellen said at last.

That made me laugh *and* be sad, all at once. Well done!

Thank you! The 'toaster' slang would ruin your breakfast, right? Glad you enjoyed this. May I friend you?

May I friend you?

Absolutely! Consider yourself friended in return.

O this is brilliant. And it answers something I've always wondered--how would a double blind communication system get set up in the first place without someone knowing both parties and communicating the signals? Plus your characterizations of all these morally ambivalent people was really good.

Thank you! Yes, it seems to risky for Gaeta to leave ministry intel in the garbage dump and just hope it reached the resistance. A third party would be needed. It's more likely to be someone like Doc Cottle, but I wanted to give Ellen some redemption.

This is excellent - from Ellen's desperate attempts to distance herself from her degradation (and dear god, I hadn;t though tof how many Cavils she may have had to shag, ewww) to her aborted attemtps to seduce Gaeta (and omg, the kitchen fiasco), to her pride at doing something right...

Sigh. A much-maligned character that I've always had a soft spot for, I must say. Good one.

I don't know where that idea came from, but it seemed like a possibility and the very idea gave me a lot of sympathy for poor maligned Ellen. I had a soft spot for her too.

Thanks! I don't think dialogue has ever been Lost's strong point even in the good old days, so writing for BSG is more challenging in that arena.

I think for all the faults Ellen really did love Saul and was prepared to suffer a lot of degradation for his sake. I think that much gives her a soul.

As for Gaeta, I always like to imagine that the death list was the last straw. Until then I think there was a tiny part of him that still cared about Baltar. I also wanted to draw a parallel between Gaeta and Tigh, who both seemed to think that killing Baltar/Ellen was their resposibility.
