BSG Review (mini-season + eps 1-7 of S1)

Phew! I've been having a bit of a BSG marthon over the past week. First of all let me say a big thanks to jelly, lune, pace, etc who have been pushing me to watch it for ages. I'm just sorry I took so long for me to get into the loop! So last night I watched through to 'Six degrees of Seperation' which was probably my favourite ep so far. So it's ( Read more... )

I'm glad it's been a pleasant viewing experience for you. It’s never been a show I get uber excited about but for the most part is dependable entertainment and often thought provoking. I found your character analyses interesting. I feel the same way about Roslin and Baltar. I admire Kara but like the warmth missing from Apollo there is something missing (or maybe too much added) that I can never completely love her. I also tune out during the space battles ( ... )

I can certainly imagine that Kara's character would become tiresome if she was over-written. That is my biggest issue with Sawyer. I actually thought his character was very sharp and well-balanced in S1. Kara has a cool balance so far but I can imagine the writers losing it and trying to have too much jammed into Starbuck. That'd put me off.

The Roslin/Adama scenes are very nice. I think I prefer Roslin with other characters though. The Roslin/Baltar scenes in the last episode were very interesting. Thanks for your ep recs!

Not seen Indy yet. We took a rain check but we'll probably see it by the end of the week. Job search? Guh. Don't ask. I'm doing some part time work in a shop over the summer, trying to finish my novel and hopefully getting a trainee placement in libraryship skills come September (fingers crossed!)

Wow! Thanks big time for all the info! I'm not really worried about spoilers. Knowing there is good stuff coming up will give me more drive to watch. But I can't see myself slogging through the whole thing. It's not BSGs fault though. Maybe Lost has put me off long running American TV series for good?! I don't feel so willing to dedicate my time to these shows. I really don't think the shipper side will ever appeal to me.

Which are your favourite Baltar and Baltar/Felix eps?? Just asking because I'm still not keen on watching so many eps and only skipping a few. Apart from anything else I am finding watching things off my laptop screen a drag.

Unfinished Business (lune would hate me for saying that,

whaaaaa'??? I hate you. >:(

Like pace said, the show is very serialized and you can't fully appreciate the impact of an episode without knowing the history. There are some you can skip though - Hero, Black Market and The Woman King are the obvious. In fact, I would encourage you to skip them. You could skip Final Cut... The must-see are usually the season finales, the premieres and the mid-season "cliffhangers": Pegasus/Resurrection Ship & Eye of Jupiter/Rapture.

The best Gaius/Felix episodes are all in season 3 - Precipice, Exodus Part II, Taking A Break from All Your Worries and Crossroad Part II. And although they don't share any scenes in Collaborators & Torn, they somewhat live parallel experiences.

My favorite episodes that you haven't seen yet are: The Hand of God, Kobol's Last Gleaming, the 3 Pegasus episodes, Exodus Part II, Collaborators, Unfinished Business & Guess What's Coming to Dinner.
