But you and I have been through that,
And this is not our fate
So let us not talk falsely now
The hour is getting late...
Falafel's Review
- Thank the Gods! My faith is restored. 'Deadlock' was such a clunker, but I loved this episode. It was as philosophical and ugly-beautiful as 4x11 and 4x12. No doubt a sign that we have some more traumatic episodes on the way.
- Okay so
elliotsmelliot tells me I have a moral core kink, but when it comes to BSG I keep falling for "the bad guys". Well actually I maintain that BSG isn't about good guys and bad guys. Rather it's about characters who are damaged yet reasoned in everything they do. But I do seem to love those characters who are quickly and carelessly branded as bad guys by the masses on fan forums. Baltar, Gaeta, Ellen, and now of course...Boomer. Come to me, my evil darlings! Let me embrace you! Maybe I'm just determinded not to agree with anything that the Pro-Airlocking Mob on these forums say. No, I don't want Boomer to be executed. I want Boomer to continue pwning those people who were going to execute her for pathetic hypocritical scapegoating reasons. So yes, Boomer is being a very bad girl, but she has an excuse. She is fucked in the head after all the shitty treatment she has recieved. This is what you get. I'd rather see Boomer fighting these people than see them making her into their punchbag again.
- Also on these BSG forums it's generally considered that Roslin is still one of our good guys. Somehow these people have not noticed that Laura Roslin is the baddest motherfrakker in the universe. I still love Roslin too, of course, because Mary McDonnell's awesomeness demands my love, but I continue to disagree with her politics. So here we go again. People who commit massive genocide are safe and forgiven. People who threaten my darling Bill are dangerous and must die. I don't really understand how these people can dismiss the Attack on the Colonies and New Caprica as bygones, yet justice must be served for Boomer shooting Adama (unintentionally) four years ago and for siding with Cavil in the civil war. By the way it was actually Natalie who started the cylon civil war, not Cavil. Just saying. You know, Zarek spoke the truth about one thing: this war isn't about who is right or wrong anymore. It's about whoever is left standing.
- The Boomer/Chief story could not have been more perfect for me. I know the shippers are probably heartbroken over this twist, but I am the Anti-shipper and I am just loving it. I'll admit I was a little bit wrong about Boomer/Chief not being in love. Chief never really loved Boomer, but Boomer absolutely loved the Chief and still does. The Chief treated Boomer like scum when he found out that she was a cylon, he betrayed their "love" and Boomer hated him so much for that while still obsessively loving him at the same time. Boomer has indeed thought about Chief every day since Cally (the woman he married) killed her. She's not lying about that part. You can tell. Chief on the other hand enjoyed the fling he had with Boomer. He wanted her more than Cally. But Chief refused to love Boomer when he found out she was a machine. Not until he discovered he was one too. Now the Chief feels very guilty about how he treated Boomer and he wants to be in love with her again, but Boomer wants him to feel betrayed like she did. Even though she still loves him. I couldn't have asked for a better Chief/Boomer story. I feared they would do something sappy with them, but they kept it real.
- The flashes of Boomer/Chiefs Dream House fascinated me. The most interesting part was their daughter. Because Boomer IS Chief's daughter. The Eights are the youngest daughter of the cylon race. They have always been the most sensitive and unpredictable of the Final Fives created children. So when Chief is running through his empty dream house at the end, he isn't so much upset over the loss of his lover. It's the loss of the daughter that really gets to him. Peeerfect.
- The last tube of toothpaste for whoever finds us a planet!! LOL. Classic.
- Kara Thrace is a total cylon/human hybrid. I called this one months ago. Kara resurrected because she is half-cylon. Her pianist father is Daniel, the dead Seven. Kara's connection to Hera through the drawing/sheet music made it certain for me. But I've been pretty certain about Kara being a hybrid since the Kasey story on New Caprica. Kara's story was so wonderful in this episode. I didn't think I was going to like it so much, but it was so subtle and personal and I don't think they mentioned her "special destiny" once. Lovely performance by Katee Sackoff I must say. Starbuck hasn't been this charming for me since S2.
- The Music! How gorgeous was the music in this episode? Just give me the S4 soundtrack now. I need it. I especially loved the 'All along the Watchtower' reprise. That was such a cool moment with the Dylan cylons all getting jumpy over their theme tune.
- Tigh has become crazy snarling old drunk again - Yay!! I missed vintage Saul.
- No Baltar in this episode? Again?! Guh. I'm trying to be patient here, but there are only three episodes left now and my dear Gaius needs some attention. I've not been too satisfied with his role so far. Apart from that one devastating scene with Felix, Baltar has either been absent from the story or has been playing court jester. I want him to have a meaty storyline again! Most secondary characters have had more meaty storylines than Baltar in 4.5. What gives? Also, I'm not much of a Lee fan, but he has been strangely sidelined and lacking in a role this season too.
- *sigh* I think Anders is pretty much dead as a character. I had the feeling that 'No Exit' was his swan song. I kind of like this idea of turning Sam into a hybrid though. Galactica needs a new central nervous system since they executed the last one. But still, poor Sam. Between this and Dee's suicide could it be anymore obvious they are clearing the way for Kara/Lee? Meh.
- Everyones dead or dying. I officially hate the CIC without Gaeta and Dualla. Hoshi just doesn't have the same sassy quality that they brought to DRADIS contacts. I kinda want the Galactica to die now, even though I'll cry for her. And yes, I get that Galactica is the real dying leader. Don't bash me over the head with it.
- The reckoning is still happening. It came for Caprica last week and this week it came for Athena. She stole Boomer's life on Galactica and now Boomer has stolen hers. Athena gets to watch Boomer having manipulative cylon sex with Helo. Athena had manipulative cylon sex with Helo on the Colonies and reported it to her cylon friends the next morning. This was before she fell in love with him and switched sides. Athena is called "the good Sharon" but she was never a sleeper agent. Athena was the one who knew exactly what she was doing, who is guilty of being a part of the genocide, who first used and frakked Helo as part of her undercover mission. Athena's not that good and Boomer's not that bad. She didn't want to have sex with Helo, but like Ellen and Felix on New Caprica, she'll whore herself out for her cause.
- I'll be interested to find out what Boomer and Cavil want with Hera. I don't think they are going to kill her, because Boomer could have done that already and Cavil isn't so petty that he would go to all this trouble just for revenge (yes, I'm defending Cavil here. Bite me). Cavil might be heartless, but that is because he's a machine and he finds it deluded to think he has real emotions. Mostly Cavil is a pragmatist who likes to experiment. So I think he'll want Hera for some productive reason, not a vindictive one. And I have to give credit to Boomer; she has certainly made the story exciting again, even more so than Ellen. I kinda like that she blew a hole in Galactica before she left. The last time it was Galactica that blew a hole in her. Boomer is not a victim anymore, she's not a pawn, she's not programmed. Maybe she is bad, but at least she's an individual and she's in control now.
- Three more eps?? Cries...
