The Top Ten Worst Things that Ever Happened to Jesse Pinkman

Day 2 of BrBa Appreciation Week. Happy Pinkman Day! So I wanted to do a Jesse top ten of sorts and the most obvious topic to go for seemed to be ranking the many many personal tragedies that Jesse has suffered. This is a scary list to compile, especially when you realize you have no room for things like Jesse melting a dead body in his bathtub or ( Read more... )

WARNING FOR ANYBODY ELSE COMING ACROSS THIS MESSAGE GAME OF THRONES SEASONS 2-3 SPOILERS.
Have you seen season 4 of Game of Thrones? Theon's mental torture is worse than Jesse's. If you haven't seen it, without giving away too much I'll just put it like this, despite everything Jesse has been through in the end he was still Jesse, by the end of the series he finally got to escape the whole drug dealing life that tormented him so much and he was excited about it. Theon is no longer Theon, he and 'Reek' really are two different people, he is basically Ramsay's slave and has become dependent on that life.

Even before season 4 his emotional torture was as bad as Jesse's emotional torture, if not worse. He grew up with the Starks, tries to prove to his actual father that he is worthy of being his son and by his side, you could see his struggle taking over Winterfell, betraying everybody he's grown up with while trying so hard to convince himself that they are the enemies for the sake of being accepted by his father. Winterfell is now destroyed after being invaded by the Boltons, not only did he not gain his father's acceptance but now his hometown where he grew up is destroyed while everybody whom he considered family there is dead. He gets tortured, supposedly rescued just to get kidnapped again and tortured some more, making him lose hope of truly being rescued, when his dick got cut off that made the whole lack of hope thing even worse, he was skeptical about the women getting all horny, and when he finally gives in he gets his dick cut off not only making him lose more hope but also has lost a lot of his identity. A lot of people refer to Theon as the guy who got his dick cut off but it is not as simple as that, with what he struggled through unless people just say that as a joke I don't think people truly understand the psychological torture he's been through.

Thanks for your comment. I didn't mean to undermine the psychological torture that Theon goes through because I know that was extensive too and I do have feels for that character too. If you feel Theon's trauma was worse than Jesse's trauma then I can't argue with you too much. All I can say is that Jesse's emotional suffering hits me harder. That may be partly because Jesse is a more major character (and therefore more richly developed) than Theon in his respective show. Or because BrBa is set more in the real world than GoT.

I can see what you're saying now, Theon has been through worse, but we feel more sorry for Jesse because he was more developed beforehand.

Yes, exactly. But I'd also add that a) I think it's entirely debatable how much Jesse got to 'escape' from his torments. It seemed like he got away but how long would Jesse really survive as a fugitive with no money/friends and all his psychological damage? I'm not as optimistic as other fans seems to be about Jesse living happily ever after as a carpenter in Alaska. And b) we still don't know the end of Theon's story. At the moment, he seems 100% gone but he may still have some sort of break through and recover his former self. Not that I expect anyone to get a happy ending in Westeros.

I do agree with you, Jesse did not get a happy ending, he escaped and has nothing or nobody, but he was still happy to escape and even though he is a broken man in the end he was still Jesse, unlike Theon who as you said seems 100% gone. While some may argue that Jesse being excited to escape shows that he's gone through worse, I think the fact that Theon refused to escape given the chance is more tormenting on his side, especially because you see that he still suffers while being a slave to Ramsay Snow, he's loyal to him, dependent on that life, but suffers through it as you can see him constantly whimpering in those scenes.
