"Shut the fuck up and let me die in peace."

So I spent the last weekend of my holiday in the beautiful Hay-on-Wye, town of books (seriously it's a tiny country town with about 50 thriving book shops). I crammed a lot into just two days of the huge literature, philosophy and music festival they have there every year. I also had the pleasure of seeing a lot of great novelists - my hero Patrick ( Read more... )

game of thrones, novels, breaking bad, mad men, orphan black, music

Re: Orphan Black. I was watching (it finished on the weekend) and nope, it definitely doesn't stay as awesome as it was in the first two episodes, no siree. But that's only because it gets exponentially MORE awesome.

Holy crap.

SO GOOD.

You won't regret watching!

I'm sure I won't regret watching. I just have too much TV eating up my time. Ah well, S1 is only 10 episodes, right? I'm excited that it gets better!

Have you got the new BrBa DVD?

It is only ten episodes long. And the finale is Face Off levels of jaw-dropping. I AM NOT EVEN JOKING.

O_O

I don't have it yet. I have the first four, but I don't think five has been released here in Australia yet. WE ARE FOREVER BEHIND.

Aww that Jesse and Saul scene sounds really good! What does Jonathon Banks rant about, Walt's character? I noticed he was starting to do that a lot in interviews during season 5 lol, really identifying with his character :P

Jonathan Banks rants about everything! He's great on the commentary tracks. At one point he is mid-rant and one of the writers jokes "I'm glad we killed you". Oh and at one point Jonathan calls Aaron "Sweetpea" which is adorable. Aaron talks a lot about how much he misses JB and then rants about how much it hurt when JB hit him in their first scene together. Vince, Bryan and Bob are great on the commentaries too. Sadly there's no Dean Norris. I guess he must have been filming 'Under the Doom' by the time they were recording.

*snickers* Oh fanfic. I once collaborated with some people on a big Harry Potter first war fic, in which the headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix was located in Hay-on-Wye. So I read this and I was like, "Oh! I've been there... no wait, I've written fic about it... ah well, almost the same." It sounds awesome, anyway. Bookstores! ♥

LoL! I can so easily imagine Harry, Hermione and Ron wandering around Hay-on-Wye. Most of the streets look like Diagon Alley. If you get the chance, I do recommend visiting!

I'm so jealous that you got the Season 5 DVDs one day in advance!! How did that happened? I want your secrets!!

New DVD releases always come out on a Monday in the UK so I guess that's how I got mine quicker. But hey, don't be jealous of me! This is the first and probably only time I'll get to see new BrBa stuff before you do. You won't envy me when the BrBa series finale is airing and I'll be giving myself insomnia waiting for a download to appear :p

I'm usually the 'one-tv-show-at-a-time' type. Me too. I tried to ween myself off BrBa with Homeland, but that show really isn't as great as the Emmy voting suggests and I quit halfway through its ridiculous S2. Then I got sucked into Six Feet Under followed by Dexter. I couldn't keep up with Mad Men and Game of Thrones at the same time so they've been on hold. I'm caught up with Thrones now (only one more episode, right?) so I'll catch up with Mad Men next. Then Orphan Black. Then Dexter S8. Then Breaking Bad will take over and no other TV will matter to me (phew ( ... )

Yes, only one episode left for GoT. Should be interesting to see everyone's reaction to the Red Wedding ( ... )

Phew! I really thought you were ditching SFU for a moment. I probably would go on SFU message boards if I could find any. I have a long-winded SFU meta post that I've been meaning to finish (all based around my thoughts on ONE scene. In 5x9). I might post that soon. Even if nobody reads it!

Will (the good guy) is someone that is described as having 'pure empathy' and can go to a crime scene and figure out what happened because he can put himself in the shoes of the murderers. But, as you can imagine, being so emphatic to this kind of horror really takes its toll.

Woah, really? That does sound interesting. I found the Will Graham character in the Red Dragon book/film rather boring but it sounds like they are doing the character a little differently in the TV show. And you know I'm a sucker for twisted psychologically damaging relationships, right? Right. I will try it at some point, especially since there's only one season with 13 episodes to catch up with. Just give me time!

not really because the... er... human meat is cooked ( ... )

I'm struggling to think of a character who has a harsher death than Catelyn. She has to go through her husband being beheaded, her daughter being held hostage by the Lannisters, her three youngest kids being missing and possibly dead, her eldest son being stabbed in the heart right in front of her. And then she gets her throat cut. God damn.
