Stephen's black eye had become lighter but his ego was still badly bruised. He stayed in bed for hours at a time, sometimes an entire day. Jon desperately tried to get him up but he would always say no and go back to watching tv or venture downstairs to the gym. Stephen looked at himself in the mirror and saw an ugly, helpless man who couldn't fight his own battles. But what made him feel lower was the fact that no one could fight for him even if they tried.

Since the team had made it into the second round, they had a little more time to recover from the hectic games of the first bracket. Jon was getting closer to Anderson, who was surprisingly a lot of fun. But the more time he spent with Anderson, the more short-tempered Stephen became.

"Alright, that's it." Jon snatched the television remote from Stephen's hands and turned the set off.

"I was watching that."

Stephen looked like he was about to make a move to steal back the remote so Jon put it behind his back.

"Yeah, I know you were watching that. You have been watching it nonstop for the past few days!"

"I've been going to the gym too."

Jon sat down on the corner of his bed and spoke softly. "I know you're hurt Stephen and I'm sorry but you have to get out of here. The guys are going out to an amusement park tonight. Come with us."

Stephen couldn't look into those piercing blue eyes. He dropped his head and then shook it from side to side, replying to Jon's invitation.

"Why not? What's there to do here?"

"Watch tv. And you're interrupting me."

"Stephen, why won't you go out with me?" The minute he said this he apologized and rephrased his sentence.

"I just don't want to...even when I go down to the gym people stare at me."

"You have a black eye, Stephen. It's kind of hard not to look at it."

Stephen's head remained down. "But it's so...unattractive."

Jon rolled his eyes thinking Stephen was joking. Luckily his head was still down because he was completely serious. Stephen started to tear at the ripped plaster on his wrist even though he knew the doctors would be angry with him. Jon's heart was beating a million miles a minute as he brought Stephen's face up to eye level. His gorgeous brown eyes were full of sadness and at the same time, wonderment.

"You could never be unattractive. Not to me."

Jon leaned in slowly and made eye contact with Stephen as if to ask permission to finish what he's started. Both of Stephen's eyes close as he nodded. Jon was finally able to feel Stephen's soft lips over his own. He wrapped an arm around Stephen's waist and pulled him closer, deepening their kiss. Stephen gripped Jon's shoulders; begging him not to let go. The two eventually parted because of their lack of oxygen. Stephen was sure he had never been kissed that way before or he would have remembered the dizzying feeling he had now.

"Merci, Jon Stewart."

Jon kissed the purplish-blue skin around Stephen's eye eliciting small sighs from him. "I've been wanting to do that for a long time."

He continued to trail kisses along the right side of Stephen's face until he was at the man's ear he had become mildly obsessed over. Jon took Stephen's earlobe between his teeth and gently sucked but Stephen flinched and lightly pushed him away.

"I'm sorry...he touches me there."

Jon felt disgusted. "Don't be sorry. Just tell me okay?"

Stephen nodded and captured Jon's lips in another kiss. Their tongues intertwined making Jon moan happily. Stephen's hands found their way into Jon's hair, roaming through each lock as though he were trying to memorize them all.

"Say something." Jon whispered.

"Don't stop...don't ever stop."

Jon eased him down so he was laying on his back. He nipped at the soft skin above Stephen's collarbone making him gasp and arch his back.

"In French." Jon said sensually.

"Continuez ... ne jamais cesser."

Jon moaned and kissed him gently before pulling away and slowly easing off the bed. Stephen whined in protest. "Where are you going?"

"The amusement park. Are you coming with us or not?"

"Will Anderson be there?"

Jon leaned down to kiss him again. "Yes, Stephen."

"Fine, I'll go. Just let me get dressed."

"Great cause I need to get in the shower."

A very cold shower.

.....

"Jon, we've been waiting forever! What took you so long?" Rob shouted in the lobby.

"Sorry about that. I needed to take a shower."

Jason, Rob, Anderson, and Wyatt were staring at Stephen's eye. Finally Rob said what the others were thinking.

"God, Stephen what happened?"

Stephen felt his face turn hot. He turned to Jon who laughed. "Well we were hitting the ball in the room and I totally got him in the eye."

"Bet you beat the shit out of him, huh Colbert?" Wyatt snorted.

Stephen shrugged. "I don't blame him for not being able to shoot on frame. He's just a defender."

Anderson and Wyatt were the only ones that truly laughed out loud, for the rest of the men present were all defenders. Stephen was starting to feel alive again.

....

"I'm glad you were nice to Anderson. I think he's really come around to you."

Stephen mumbled something under his breath and focused on the South African skyline in front of him. A mixture of bright lights danced in front of his eyes as they walked the remainder of the way back to the hotel.

Chanting coming from the stadium made them stop for a few minutes to listen to the commentators narrate Spain beat Chile. Stephen had been silent then too.

"What's wrong, Stephen?"

"Nothing."

"I can tell when you're lying."

Stephen readjusted his glasses on his face. Since his eye had been swollen for the past few days it was impossible to put in contacts. His head was pounding from the constant monotone noise of those blasted vuvuzela horns. Stephen found it odd that while he was playing he hardly heard any noise at all; but when he wasn't, those horns gave him a horrible migraine.

Jon cut him off by stepping in front of him and walking backwards.

"You don't think Jon has a thing for Stephen do you?" Jason whispered in Anderson's ear.

"No way. Jon wouldn't ever put up with a jerk like him."

Stephen kept walking to the side so he would be out of the way of Jon's path and nagging questions.

When they reached the hotel the men said their goodbyes and promised to meet in the morning at the gym. A few small children stopped Stephen in the lobby to ask for his autograph. Although he was dead in his feet, he took the pen from them and scribbled a fancy looking signature on their small piece of paper.

In the elevator up to the penthouse, Jon stood on his toes to kiss his forehead. Stephen's eyes were closed but he smiled happily.

"Are you mad those kids didn't ask for your autograph?"

"No. I'm just glad you gave them yours because if you didn't I might have had to hit you in the other eye."

Stephen actually laughed. It was a sweet, melodious sound that made Jon's stomach tingle.

The two yawned together as though they had been perfectly synchronized. Jon lazily stuck the key to the room inside the lock and pulled the door open.

"Hey, Stephen...do you wanna sleep with me tonight? I mean not like that of course but-"

Stephen laughed and raised his eyebrow. "Oui."

Jon smiled and slowly lifted his shirt over his head and climbed into bed. Stephen followed soon after, laying his head on the other man's chest.

"Ow, Stephen your glasses are pinching my side."

"Sorry. I forgot they were even on. I'm not used to wearing them all the time."

He slipped the thin frames off of his nose and settled back into the curve of Jon's chest where his pectorals separated. Jon hummed softly, the sound reverberating onto Stephen's cheek.

"Don't hang out with Anderson anymore." Stephen said with a yawn.

"Is that what you were upset about?"

"He so obviously has a crush on you."

"Oh come on, no he doesn't."

Stephen sighed and hugged his waist. "Tu es si naïve."

"I heard the word naive..."

"Which you are."

Jon leaned down to kiss his forehead. "Even if that were the case-"

"Which it is."

"Even if that were the case, I wouldn't be interested."

Stephen decided that would be enough for now; but he would be sure to keep an eye on Anderson. Jon was just happy to be free from O'Reilly for a few days. Since they had made it into the second round, news networks all over decided to set up interviews with him. Jon was sure to make the most of these few days.
