this concert.
Jiyong sat at the cafe that he was always at. Well, not Jiyong. No he was someone else. He was the heavenly man he saw at this very cafe every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and some Saturdays. With a great body in a fit black suit and a drop-dead gorgeous face, how could Jiyong not stalk the man?
Well, stalk was a little harsh. It was more of a coincidental meeting every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and some Saturdays. It was at around this time, lunch time, that he would see the man. It was Thursday today, which meant that he would also see the amazing man tomorrow. And maybe the day after.
Sighing, he looked out at the table that the man usually took but gasped at what he saw. There, across from the heavenly man, was a girl. She was pretty, Jiyong had to admit, if he was into girls. She was curvy with a cute face and soft smile. Not his style, seeing from the man that Jiyong had been watching.
But his man was sitting with a girl. Jiyong felt his heart jerk and he knew that something would have to be done about the girl. He couldn't accept that she just waltzed into the man's life and took his heart. Not after the hours of coincidentally meeting the man here every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and some Saturdays.
Jiyong finished off his strawberry-banana smoothie and stood up. It was high time he did something about the man that he had been pining over. Like find out who he was.
~~~
The whole thing fell in his lap, actually. He barely had to do anything. Well, he had to charm the girl, but he didn't have any trouble doing that; it came naturally to him.
No, the hard part was getting the girl to introduce him to the man. To him.
Her name was something. Yuna, Yoona, Yuri, something. He didn't really care about her name. She was a means to get to the man. And Seungri had shown interest in her, so maybe he could dump her off to him. That would be convenient.
He had been introduced to her through Seungri, actually. Seungri did that often. Show Jiyong off to girls so that they could like him better. Jiyong didn't understand how it worked, but for once he wasn't going to ask questions. This was too perfect.
This was the same girl that had been sitting across from him that day.
“So, you seeing anyone right now?” Jiyong asked as they sat at the cafe. He had asked her yesterday if she would like to eat out at a cafe that Saturday and she had agreed. Which was a shot in the dark, because Jiyong didn't know if the man would be here today or not. Saturdays were always a maybe.
“I'm thinking about someone,” she replied. “But otherwise, I'm completely free.”
Jiyong smiled widely and nodded his head. That meant that the man wasn't dating her, which was good for him. It meant that he had a small chance. Well, if the man even liked guys in general. But Jiyong could always hope. He was good at being positive.
“Oh! Hey, Seunghyun!”
Jiyong frowned and wondered how this girl knew Seungri's real name, but when he turned around to see who she was waving to, he had to let out a gasp. This man, this Seunghyun, was standing there, kind of shocked.
“Hey, Hanji,” the man replied, still shocked.
“Seunghyun! I want you to meet Jiyong! Seungri introduced us, isn't he so cool?”
Yeah, I'm cool, Jiyong thought to himself before he could stop it. Brushing aside his own thoughts, he smiled at Seunghyun.
“Nice to meet you, Seunghyun-shi,” he greeted.
“Yes, nice to meet you, Jiyong-shi,” Seunghyun replied. Jiyong liked the way his name sounded coming from the other man. It sounded like chocolate and wine. Well, if chocolate and wine could be heard.
“Please, just Jiyong.”
“Then call me Seunghyun. No formalities here, right?”
“Sit with us, Seunghyun!” Hanmun(1) called out. No, that wasn't right. Hanshi? Hanji? Hanji!
“Sure,” Seunghyun replied, taking a seat across from Jiyong, but next to the girl. Jiyong didn't like that. Not at all.
But he had gained something from this. A name. Seunghyun. He wasn't at a total loss today.
Jiyong sipped at his smoothie and let himself smile. This was a good day.
~~~
The next time he saw Seunghyun was that Tuesday. He wasn't sure if he should talk with him or just ignore him. It was an awkward situation.
But Hanli took care of it. She was there, sitting across from Seunghyun at his normal table. She called him over and started a conversation.
“Are you always here?” she asked.
“Only every now and then for lunch. It's hard to get out for lunch because of my boss.” Jiyong didn't mention that he was a record producer and his own boss, but it really didn't need to be mentioned. Not here, at least. And maybe he wouldn't mention that his father owned the company. Dtails, details.
“I'm the same way,” Seunghyun added. Jiyong sat next to Hanrim today, wrapping an arm around her chair casually. He didn't really want to touch her, but he would have to appear to want her. Which was almost asking too much, but to get to Seunghyun, he needed an act. And he was good at acting.
“I bet you have a wonderful job and an easy life,” Hansun said with a wistful smile. Jiyong frowned and mentally shook his head. She shouldn't have said that. He gauged Seunghyun's reactions carefully to see how he would react to that.
“Not too easy,” Seunghyun said with a near wince. Jiyong bit his lip. He understood that look. Not an easy life growing up, then. “But it's good now.”
Jiyong smiled at the way Seunghyun almost seemed to brush Hanmi and her question off. It was a nice quality to have, to ignore the ignorant.
“What about you, Jiyong? I know that Seunghyun works at YG as an executive, but what do you do?”
Jiyong looked at Seunghyun in surprise. He worked as one of the executives? Then why hadn't he ever seen Seunghyun around?
“I'm a producer at YG,” he replied. “I didn't know you worked there. Why have I never seen you?”
“I only started a few months ago.”
That was around the same time Jiyong had started noticing Seunghyun at the cafe. Which made sense, he guessed.
“Then let me personally welcome you! We should have a party! We'll invite Youngbae and Daesung. At Seungri's place.”
Hansoo giggled into her hand and Jiyong smiled at her before changing his smile to Seunghyun.
“I already had a party held by the president. It was a pity I couldn't meet his son.”
“Oh! His son?” This time it was Hanmin who had exclaimed. “I've heard he was a beauty.”
“You haven't met him?” Seunghyun asked. “I thought you were the president's assistant.”
Damn. He should have known her but he didn't. For a few seconds Jiyong felt bad, but he pushed it away to look at Seunghyun instead.
“Did you want to meet him?” Jiyong asked, genuinely curious.
“Yeah, but I never got the chance. I wouldn't mind meeting him.”
Jiyong smiled and nodded. “I could get him to meet up with you. Would you mind so terribly?”
“Not at all,” Seunghyun replied, a smile blossoming on his face. “I'd actually really like that.”
Jiyong let a real smile slip on his face as he thought about meeting Seunghyun as his father's son. He wondered how he would take it. He hoped it went over well.
Silently, Jiyong thought to himself. Humming was optional.
~~~
He met Seunghyun that Monday in the office area where Seunghyun seemed to work. He had looked up the name Seunghyun and got two results. Lee and Choi. Knowing who the Lee was, he instead went to where Choi Seunghyun was listed.
There he had seen Seunghyun walking out of his nice, private office right into Hanwoo.
“Are you guys okay?” he asked as he pulled Seunghyun off of the floor. Seunghyun had taken the brunt of the damage so that Hanmi didn't fall.
“I'm fine,” the girl replied.
“I am too,” Seunghyun said with a nod. He brushed off his suit and smiled at Jiyong. “Thanks for that.”
Jiyong almost melted from the smile but held back from doing anything extreme. “No problem.”
“So, why are you guys skulking in front of my office?” Seunghyun asked with a teasing grin.
“I'm here to give you this,” Hansook said as she handed over a piece of paper. Jiyong recognized it as a status report and ignored it.
“Is that it?” Jiyong asked. When the girl nodded her head, he took Seunghyun by the hand and dragged him away. “Then I'll take him.” They made it to the elevator and Jiyong let go Seunghyun to press the highest floor button. “Where were you going?” Jiyong asked.
“The President's office. You?” Seunghyun replied.
“Same,” Jiyong said with a smile. “I got you a meeting with the president's son, so that's where we're going now.”
“I actually have to go to a meeting...” Seunghyun trailed off.
“I know.”
Seunghyun didn't ask anymore questions and Jiyong felt the loss of the man's voice to be a sad loss. Finally, the elevator made a “ding” and the doors opened.
“Don't we need an escort beyond here?” Seunghyun asked. They passed by a counter where two guards and an empty desk sat.
“I am your escort,” Jiyong replied. “Don't worry about it.”
Seunghyun made a noise in the back of his throat, but Jiyong ignored it to open the door to his father's office. Inside were two other people that Jiyong knew well. There was Daesung, his odd friend who liked dramas too much for his own good and Youngbae, his childhood friend. Behind the desk was his father, looking thoroughly entertained.
“Jiyong,” his father greeted. “Seunghyun.”
“Dongwook-shi,” Seunghyun said with a nod.
“Daddy,” Jiyong replied with a nod of his own. “I see Youngbae and Daesung got here before I did.”
Jiyong went up to the two and gave them both a hug at the same time. He turned back afterwards to look at Seunghyun's face, not surprised to see shock.
“You're his son?” Seunghyun asked. “How?”
“Adopted,” Jiyong replied. “But that's not really important.” He waved his hand in a gesture that just emphasized that it wasn't important. “I'm actually here for a meeting too, so let's go!” He walked out the door, grabbing Seunghyun's hand as he walked by. The other three men followed Jiyong and Seunghyun to the conference room where the meeting was going to be held.
Jiyong sat to his father's right while Seunghyun sat across from him on his father's left. Other people filed in and Jiyong looked at each one of them with a smile. This wasn't the first meeting Jiyong had sat in on, but every time he did so, people stared at him with disdain. He just brushed it off and thought back to tomorrow. When he would eat lunch with Seunghyun. Then he thought of Seunghyun, who was sitting in front of him.
“Let's get started, shall we?” Dongwook asked.
~~~
Jiyong watched his father speak with Seunghyun and he smiled. It was probably something to do with the company or something. Not that Jiyong really cared. Well, he didn't have to yet. He would inherit the company for a while, seeing as Dongwook was happy and healthy.
Jiyong decided that he would go ahead and walk towards Seunghyun's office and wait for him there.
If he weren't stopped by Hansun.
“Hey!” she called out with a bright smile. Jiyong gave his own smile, albeit a fake one, and waved.
“Hey, what's going on?”
“Just waiting for the president to finish his meeting. What are you doing up here without an escort?”
Jiyong thought about his escape routes and decided that the truth would be best. But not fun at all.
“I snuck up here for a meeting. And to see you.” he added that last bit as a cheesy little tidbit, but she seemed to blow up into a parade of happiness when she heard it.
“You're so sweet!”
Jiyong tried to pull away from her hug, but she was insistent on it. After an exchange of a few more words, he managed to escape. Quickly, he made it to the elevator and hit the button for the seventeenth floor, Seunghyun's floor. But before the doors could closed, there was a strained “wait!”
Jiyong hit the open button and watched with amusement as Seunghyun tumbled into the elevator. “Had to get away from Hanji, sorry.”
Jiyong let out a laugh and nodded his head. “I completely understand,” he replied. “I had the same problem. She hugged me.”
“I noticed that you shy away from her contact. Is it just her? Because I saw you hug Daesung and Youngbae just fine.”
“Just girls,” Jiyong got out before he realized what he said. His eyes went wide but before he could take it back, Seunghyun spoke.
“So if I were to hug you, you would be fine?” he asked. Jiyong nodded, a bit embarrassed by it.he didn't have a reason to be, but he was. He looked down at his feet and felt his cheeks blush.
“You're an odd one,” Seunghyun concluded just as the elevator doors opened. “I'll see you tomorrow at the cafe, yeah?”
“Yeah.”
Jiyong watched Seunghyun's back disappear as the elevator doors closed and couldn't help but feel giddy. Seunghyun expected him tomorrow. Almost like a date.
~~~
Jiyong happily sat at Seunghyun's normal table, waiting for Seunghyun to arrive at his normal time. Casually he checked the door for the man and let himself smile widely when he saw him. But his smile dropped when he saw the girl, Hansim, walk in after Seunghyun.
“Hey, you two,” he greeted, voice a little strained.
“Hanji wanted to join us, if you don't mind,” Seunghyun said with his own strained smile.
“Not at all!” But he hoped Seunghyun could see his strained smile and slight anger. Which he mirrored on his own face.
Seunghyun pulled the chair out from across Jiyong and let Hangurl(2) sit down. After getting her settled, Seunghyun himself moved across the table and sat down next to Jiyong.
“Are we getting anything to eat?” Seunghyun asked. “You're paying.”
Jiyong let out a laugh at this. “So you know that I probably have more money than you?” he asked. “How smart.”
“I know,” was Seunghyun's only response as he looked at the menu. “How about we split a soup and sandwich combo?”
“I would like that.”
“What are you guys, dating?” Hanji asked.
Seunghyun looked over at her and smirked. One arm was wrapped around Jiyong's waist and he was nonchalantly sprawled on his own chair. Jiyong smiled and leaned back into Seunghyun's arm.
“How did you know?” he asked. Are we really dating?”
She let out a frustrated scream and got up. “I don't want to hang out with you!”
Jiyong and Seunghyun watched her walk out of the cafe with a smile on each face.
“So, what about her bothered you?” Jiyong asked, still wary of the arm wrapped around his waist.
“Her boobs,” Seunghyun replied with a straight face. “They were too fake.”
“Plastic?”
“Probably.”
“Now what?”
Seunghyun looked over at Jiyong with a bright smile. “We order that soup and sandwich combo and have a nice little date. Well, as long as our lunch break allows.”
Jiyong smiled and took his phone out. With a quick jab at it, he had sent a text message to his father. “Dealt with,” he replied. “We have an hour from now.”
After they ordered, Seunghyun moved so that he was sitting across from Jiyong. “Sorry,” he explained. “But I can't sit next to someone when there is no one sitting across from me. The symmetry is wrong.”
“I feel the same way,” Jiyong replied. “But I'm curious. Could you answer a question?”
“Sure.”
Jiyong paused as he watched the food arrive, taking in the scent of the wonderful soup and sandwich. “Why did you want to meet me? Not me me, but my father's son me.”
Seunghyun's hand, which was reaching for a spoon, froze. “I had heard things about you,” he said as he started moving again. “Things like 'the president's son was spoiled' or 'he's a brat.' I wanted to know what you were really like.”
Jiyong laughed aloud and nodded his head. “And do I exceed your expectation?”
“Brilliantly.”
Jiyong smiled at Seunghyun and nodded his head. “Then can we go on a real date?” Jiyong asked. “Because I would like that.”
“Of course.”
When they left, Jiyong caught sight of Hansum across the street with Seungri and he smiled. “We all get a happy ending,” he muttered.
Seunghyun grabbed his hand and pulled him closer and giving him a quick kiss. “And it's not just every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and some Saturdays.”
All Jiyong could do was blush and nod his head. Yeah. It was more than that now.
