a mandolin of snide detachment

Not that I understand the intricacies of D&D, but I find that I understand enough to find the following exchange between Patton Oswalt and the hosts of The Sound of Young America HI-larious. Must be one of those pop culture osmosis things. Weird.

That must have just been like a dream for you with that glorious collision of the nerd world and the indie rock world. It’s like if the X-Men added, like, Black Francis to the lineup.

Or perhaps like some sort of roleplaying game with a 20-sided die where you were various members of Yo La Tengo.

Could we give Georgia and Ira 17 Dexterity? And James McNew 15 Charisma with a Bag of Holdings?

He’s got a Halbert of Magical Rocking.

See, he’s got a plus-three Melo-tron.

A Rune Spear of Ironic T-shirt.

Exactly. Could I have a Mandolin of Snide Detachment, please?

Yo La Tengo fills me with an overwhelming sense of meh, but really you can substitute any given indie rock band of a certain sort. ahemINTERPOLahem
