My desperate urge to see the sun once in a while has come to this.

So I've figured out a commute that's 4x as expensive as my usual one but allows me to spend ALL OF IT ABOVE GROUND, ON THE RIVER. I can't do it every day, for reasons of schedule and weather and expense, but I'm excited by the prospect.

I've always been terrified of biking in NYC. I don't even have a place to store a bike to begin with. And I've always been annoyed at the inconvenience and bizarre mistiming of the ferry and its shuttle buses, even though at first glance it ought to be a reasonable way for me to get to work.

So it took about three years, but I finally figured something out:

I can buy a tiny folding bike, bike to the NY Waterway terminal in JC, take the ferry to 39th and ride the rest of the way to my office on the Hudson Greenway, the bike path next to the river. No main city streets! Just some decent exercise and a lovely view.

After a bunch of research I ended up choosing a Citizen Tokyo because it is shockingly cheap and extremely cute. Even used bikes on Craigslist couldn't beat it.

Of course, it's pretty much guaranteed that as soon as I get it it'll pour rain for weeks...
