First off, I want to welcome everyone who has semi-merged over from
fake_lj_deaths! I hope that this community helps you in discovering fakes on LJ or helps you with cases that you may feel are fake or not.
I wanted to post about my personal experiences here, but I don't believe I will do that now. I will save that for my personal journal, so it's not forced on anyone.
For the rest, I recommend that you
frienditto entries that you feel are fake or save them. Go to file>Save as> then make sure it's in HTML format. You can get free space from your ISP or Geocities to host the files, should the person delete or friends-only the entry in question. Also, it may be wise to
narcopolo their IPs so should they create a new account, it can be archived there as well. IPs are almost the only way to prove if someone is or isn't the same as another person.
What this community needs is people who have knowledge of things outside their backyard. So to say. Heh. Most of the people who fake are people who rarely leave the house or have experenced these things, that is why they are almost always caught.
I also want people to keep in mind that sometimes, multiple people do use the same computer. My dad and I did for four years. It was his computer and his internet account. I just used it while he was at work. So that is not outside the realm of possiblity. However, he didn't get involved in my online life or accounts, and he did not know how to post in my journal, or log into my email. He didn't even have my passwords. But we had the same or very similar IP addresses. And naturally, his emails to his old co-worker friends had identical or very similar headers.
I will get onto the email address as soon as I can find my password and account notebooks. They're buried under this mess of papers somewhere. So's my desk. When I do that, I will have an email address for people to apply to be a mod, but
againsthestream and
tupelo are welcome to mod here if they want, no application needed.
