A pronunciation question....

Jun 26, 2008 10:45

The phrase of the day on 'a word a day' today was "devil's advocate", a phrase I've always liked. But it surprised me by saying that "advocate" was pronounced "advo-kate". When "advocate" is a noun, I pronounce it "advo-cat".

Have I been wrong all these years?

(If so, won't be the first time, won't be the last.)

words, chatter

May your arm be strong and painless! May the drive go well.

Working on strong. The drive was soothing -- I had the windows open and there was good, cool air. Plus, the car being hot actually helped: the warm seat against my back was basically a heating pad. Not a bad thing.

I was a little worse when I got out of the car -- at first. Then it got less bad, rapidly. I think I am indeed just still working off one or two days of sleeping on it wrong. Could I be that lucky? How I hope!

We're getting a gorgeous thunderstorm right now.

Amazing and lovely. I think we had one last night -- puddles outside this morning, and I think I heard it on the windows (I could add that purring drowned it out, but that isn't quite true this time: the little tiger giggling and running madly to and fro is what drowned it out this time! she was in fine form). Nothing better than a thunderstorm.

And I'm about to write a short Apaplexy zine.

I may try to do that later, when I get back to campus. Yes, I still have a sixty-mile drive ahead of me again... sigh. Should be all right.

I finished my zine and emailed it to Tasia. Yay me!

No mailing comments, though, I couldn't find the last apa. Not easy to look for it, either. So.

It was a gorgeous evening - coolish and with dramatic clouds.

Glad your shoulders are easing. I hope they continue to improve.

I was not able to do a zine. Too stressed out to try to do something last-minute. For soem reason, I got a sudden intestinal upset during my last three hours at work; it seems to have eased, now, but I'm left wondering if I didn't cook something properly, or put it into a container that I had not washed properly...? This is an awful lot of intestinal upset stuff coming very close together!

Anyway... sorry that I will be missing the apa this time, but I also did not want to put in a zine that did not include condolence to Sharon in Winnipeg regarding the cat needing to be put down following a rather serious bite... that was heartbreaking to read, and I won't zip something off about Chris Godfrey books and just bypass that. It's too important.

Sounds like a lovely evening indeed. People who don't look at clouds are missing beauty on a daily and hourly basis, eh?

Well, my shoulder was tender and my arm weak almost all day at work. Right now, on my way home, I feel no pain there at all. How lucky am I? Very! I got some exercises from a coworker who has long dealt with "thoracic strain/sprain syndrome," and they helped. I think I did indeed just sleep on it wrong, several days running, and it just could not take this. I'm going to be extra careful from now on, believe me. Such incredible pain that was, and basically from out of nowhere!

Can I blame my new futon for being much too comfortable? hee
