Blackpool...

I finished watching Blackpool this morning. I loved it. As a genre, it pretty much defies description: murder mystery, soap opera, black comedy, musical, psychological drama - bits of all of that mixed together, and I'm not sure it wasn't a morality play more than any of the rest, though what the moral was, I'm not sure ( Read more... )

If you get a chance and can find it, check out the sequel "Viva Blackpool".

Also.

We are making an American version. Why, God only knows.

An American version of Blackpool.

My goodness. My mind is boggling.

How? I mean, isn't Las Vegas already Las Vegas?

I'm not sure whether to laugh - yes, I'm laughing - or to despair.

If it has David Tennant in it, I forgive everything.

It's called Viva Laughlin, so I imagine it's about one of those small towns suddenly getting gambling casinos

ACTUALLY. It appears to have some clips up on Youtube, leading me to wonder if it's already aired or is airing SOON.

That is Hugh Jackman. Amazing. Turns out he's one of the executive producers.
See the IMDB listing at http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0878801/fullcredits#cast.

The tone is so different. It looks so weird. And the guy playing Ripley Holden is so unlike David Morrissey. I think I'm even more mind-boggled and incredulous after seeing this than I was before.

It's called "Viva Laughlin", and has ongoing appearances by Hugh Jackman. :) It airs this fall on CBS. There are lots of clips and stuff up on youtube as well.

I'm torn between it looking absolutely horrifying and then I see a clip where it looks pretty damned awesome.

It's Hugh Jackman. I'm not sure it that makes it more strange or more attractive. At least he's good at the musical bits.

I see no hint of a character like DI Carlisle.

I put a thing up on my journal about characters in Laughlin. Carlisle IS in it.

I don't know where the picture came from - I certainly love it! The icon was by daedream_fanbot.

My icon? It's a promo pic from Sex Traffic, and I made it. :)

What is Sex Traffic?

Ooooo Sex Traffic is a miniseries from the Beeb about, well, the sex traffic trade out of Eastern Europe. Simm plays a journo who gets deeper into the story than his organization wants him to. If you like, I can mail it to you on DVD-R -- they're .avi files, so if you don't have a DivX DVD set-top you can't watch them on tv, but they'll play in a computer.

I always wonder why they remake Biritsh shows with American actors. To keep the actors busy? Because it's fun? Why not just show the original?

This is intriguing just because it's so... bizarre. I mean, doing it once, a British version, is strange enough.
